That figure has to be a parody. No way can it be serious. |

No, not a parody, just fantasy. And I like it. |
Winston Smith | 20 Oct 2014 4:52 p.m. PST |
We had this "debate" a few years ago. "It's Fantasy!" is not an excuse for stupidity. To say that this is fantasy is to show how little respect you have for fantasy. |

Photo blocked by adult filter: "picture" She seems to be better armoured than this guy. Also if she is just an executioner isn't it possible that the look is one of intimidation and show man ship than protection? Part of the show might be a little T&A. I can't think that it is any worse than anything worn in studio wrestling. Not that anyone complaining about this ever watched that. I'm sure. |

The paint job sucks too. Did she just come out of a coal mine? No, those are not implants. They are melons haphazardly glued to her. |

No I do not have little respect for fantasy. Such an opinion just shows you are very narrow minded regarding fantasy. |
OSchmidt | 21 Oct 2014 4:12 a.m. PST |
I look on this as "boudoir burlesque" That is, the costume isn't steel, its light plastic or papier mache. It's what some people think a woman looks reall hot in. Not me, but… there are others. In that vein do I detect a slight reddening on the buttocks signifying she's had a spanking? |
Winston Smith | 21 Oct 2014 12:51 p.m. PST |
If you think that anything goes because it's fantasy, you have little respect. If you accept absurdity because "Hey, it's fantasy", then you have little respect for fantasy. If you allow unrealistic or stupidity in your figures , then you have little respect for fantasy. |
OSchmidt | 21 Oct 2014 1:22 p.m. PST |
Ok so what exactly is "Fantasy" and how does one "have respect for it." Or not as the case may be. Doesn't it come down to "I like this and it gets me all hot and buttered and if you don't like that I am going to take it personal because you are criticizing something I like, and when you criticize something I like you criticize me, and therefore you are showing no respect for me? " I like Mozart. I don't like Jazz. I know there are people who like Jazz and don't like Mozart. I can live with that. They aren't telling me I can't listen to Mozart and I can only listen to Jazz. Each style of music has its own coda, tropes and way of doing things. Discordant notes in either one remain discordant notes no matter what. " Elves, hobbits, trolls, Orcs, and goblins are fantasy creatures. They too have a coda as delineated by the authors. Thus, if it's a "Tolkein view of a Hobbit" then it must look like, evoke, or resemble what we glean a hobbit to look like from the text. Artistic interpretation is possible, but they can't be 12 ft tall green skin, with skinny spindly legs and have arms reaching to the ground and sound like John Carradine. All art must reference something. You CAN have abstract art like Modrian or Modigliani, but in that all reference to the "real" even the "fantasy real" is gone and therein lies the rub ESPECIALLY on a community like TMP where miniatures are-- well-- miniatures, miniature representations of some ideal or imagined thing which though fantasy is nevertheless REAL in the source from which the picture has been drawn from the coda. |

Hey Winston, who are you to define the borders in "my" fantasy? I can accept that you find things absurd etc. But stating that miniatures do not fit in the fantasy genre just because you think you define the borders for that genre for everyone; well that certainly is a huge lack of respect. Not that I take your opinion here on this board seriously… Ever considered to rename your Winston and John character into Statler and Waldorf? Maybe just only on this board? Quite suitable I think😀. |
Winston Smith | 22 Oct 2014 5:40 a.m. PST |
Too many people defend something absurd by saying "Hey! It's FANTASY!!! It doesn't matter how stupid it is. It's justified because it's "fantasy". That is what I mean by having no respect for fantasy. I am not trying to force my definition on anybody. |
monash1916 | 22 Oct 2014 7:09 a.m. PST |
I am not convinced by that. If you feel that something is absurd or stupid does not have to mean that everybody else also thinks that "that something" is absurd and stupid. But because you find it absurd you kind of state that it has no right to be in the fantasy genre. Smells like forcings ones opinion to me. Noting wrong with you finding that miniature being stupid and absurd. But state that as your opinion and not as a fact and thereby excluding the mini from fantasy along the way. A genre which should not have any boundries. |

Monash, READ WHAT I ACTUALLY SAID, instead of your outraged indignant opinion of what I, err… Winston, did say. Too many people excuse absurdity by calling it fantasy. That degrades the meaning of fantasy. Have a nice day. |
monash1916 | 23 Oct 2014 3:01 a.m. PST |
John, I certainly did read what eh Winston (😃) wrote, I just was not convinced by his arguments. Makes me wonder if the two of you actually did read my argument. I was stating that whatever you consider to be absurd and stupid does not have to be absurd and stupid for others. You can have your own opinion about it, but you can not set the gold standard for what IS or IS NOT stupid. Indignant? Well maybe a bit, but I should have realized that some people are better to look over their own borders than others. Outraged? No not at all. Have not been shouting here (using capitals I mean 😃) Have a nice day too John (and Winston 😃) |
