Hi all, Progress continues towards the completion of the German Division at Talavera with the addition of the 2nd battalion in the 4th Baden Regiment. In addition I have completed Von Porbeck the commander of the brigade who was killed in the battle
If you would like to know more about this particular unit and others in the Division then, as always, just follow the link to JJ's link Jonathan |

Those are lovely. Nice shooting effect with the cotton wool! Are the Bavarians closest to this uniform ,if the actual figures are not available, or Wurttemberg? |

Hi Chortle, Thank you. I think the Bavarians work quite well. I had to mess about with the front of the crest on the kaskets and trim them back to better mimic the look of the Baden version. Now seeing them done and on the table they look ok to me and don't assault the eye with too much variation. I did the Badeners last to allow me time to look at the options and this was my choice. I don't know if it's the best choice, but it works for me. Hope that helps Jonathan |

Thank you, Jonathan. Do you know how many battalions the Baden army deployed in theaters? I have some unpainted Bavarians free to play with – also some unpainted Wurttembergers – though their lapels stop a little bit above the trouser line. |

Wow, that's quite a question. The shape and size of the Baden army changed quite a bit from July 1796 when it made peace with the French under the terms of the Peace of Paris, through to 1815 when they supplied a division of men (18,374), attached to the Austian II Corps. If its 1809 vs Austria you're after Ray Johnson's "Armies of the Napoleonic Wars" gives the Baden forces as 4 Infantry Regiments, 1 Jager battalion, 1 Leibgarde battalion, 1 Lt Dragoon Regt, 1 Hussar Regt, 1 Company Garde du Corps, 1 Artillery battalion and 4 Garrison Regiments. The 4th Regt and the artillery battery remained in Spain. The Johnson book is a handy reference, but mine is an 1984 edition so I don't know how easy it is to pick up. Failing that you could get the Rawkins title which looks very good value link |

Thanks for the info. I have ordered that Rawkins. He has some well respected books. |

they look very convincing, nice work again. An alternative could be shakos from 1811 onward, I must check on this. The regiment with mounted officer on your blog – excellent |
