Melbourne film maker Matthew Holmes is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund his short film on the last days of bushranger Ben Hall. He claims he's determined to make it the most historically authentic celluloid bushranger pic ever, and is relying heavily on the advice of an expert NSW bushranger historian. He aims to have it completed in time for the 150th anniversary of the outlaw's death next May. If the campaign succeeds, he plans to go on to produce a three-hour epic Ben Hall bio-pic for cinema release. For more information go to link

Henry, I got a 404 error link clicking on your link.
I recollect the excellent TV series from the 1970s when I was a mere whippersnapper. I wish that they would release that series on DVD

Just Google 'Legend of Ben Hall', and you'll find a number of items, including newspaper articles.

Apparently the original funding goal was exceeded, and one of the pages suggests that the project is now at the 90 minute feature stage.

Hopefully they shoot it out west around Young……

Part is being filmed in Jugiong, Victoria, and someone near Forbes has offered their property for use. I believe the offer has been accepted by the producers. There's plenty of info online if you want to look it up, Bluewillow.

I had a look at the IMDB entry for this, and it's now expanded to a 120 minute feature.

Now due for release later this year, according to the seriously upgraded website, which includes a professional looking trailer. The costumes and weapons look pretty convincing, so their claim of historical accuracy might even be more than just hype.

There's also a new note to the effect that this will be the first of a 'proposed Legends trilogy – an epic of the NSW bushrangers'.

If you haven't looked at the movie's Facebook page, it's worth doing so: there's an illuminating interview with writer/director/producer Matthew Holmes.

The latest post on the Facebook page shows 1/8 scale model buildings being made! Perhaps it would be worth 4Ground's while to liaise with the production team.

Well, the official trailer is finally(!) up on the Facebook page, along with a definite release date: December; a very sensible decision to capitalise on the Silly Season holiday blockbuster market.

Now screening in cinemas. Here in SA it's showing at Wallis Mitcham and Mount Barker.

There are already a few reviews online. In summary, the film gets points for historical authenticity and visual sweep, but is let down somewhat by excessive length and inconsistent performances. As in many films the first half lacks pace, but it revs up in the second half. Overall most reviewers rate it as well worth seeing. No doubt I'll get around to it soon enough.
