Why are there 2 colors choices for Early War German Trousers? I see the option for Field Grey or London grey. Could I have mixed colors within a unit? Is one color more prevalent than the other? I personally like the Field Grey Tunic and London grey trouser look better but I wasn't sure which is more appropriate. Thanks in advance.

Earlier in the war, German soldiers were issued with the grey trousers, but later on issue switched to field grey. If you are painting troops for Poland, all should have the grey trousers. But if you are painting for Barbarossa, most if not all should have field grey trousers. I want to say the issue switched over by Battle of France, but there might have been a mix at this time as new draftees were given the new stuff, while older troops retained the older color trousers. I'd like to think they were at least a little bit brown-stained after coming up against the BEF… |

If that illustration is supposed to be the correct colours then the jacket is Vallejo German Uniform, not Feldgrau – which is an option for early war, up to and including the battle of France. |

Steel Grey trousers were certainly in use in France |

Also, the gray cloth naturally faded to a color that was close to field grey. |

Steingrau trousers were what was issued early war, gradually being replaced by field grey. On the eastern front they were still in evidence in 1942, they were also issued in 1945. I wouldn't get too hung up about it, but the contrast with the jacket does look good. |
