"Done much killing?" tough Sgt. Don "Wardaddy" Collins (Brad Pitt) asks winsome newbie Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman). "No," Ellison answers timidly. "You will," the big guy spits out.

He's not kidding. Fury, writer-director David Ayer's war film to end all war films (fingers crossed), begins with Collins killing a German cavalry officer with a knife, then cutting his eye out as a souvenir. It ends, a draining two hours and 10 minutes later, in a battle that makes the Alamo look like a pie dessert — à la mode.

This is War Movie 101: all fighting, nearly all the time.

Can't wait for Friday. Advance reviews are mostly positive. And sorry, Armand, for beating you to the punch on this one with your modus operandi.

While most here will complain about this movie, I am looking forward to the entertainment. Many seem to forget, that its a story not a historical documentary.

Good fun will be had

Sounds like a Sergeant Rock comic book. I'll wait for it to appear on HBO/Showtime/Cinemax/whatever.

I saw a note somewhere that they used an actual running M4 Easy 8 and Tiger 1 in the filming.

Sounds like a Sergeant Rock comic book.

To some of us of a certain age, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

jpattern215 Oct 2014 11:49 a.m. PST

Actually, that's necessarily a GOOD thing. thumbs up

I'll see it this weekend.

I will see it.

kallman15 Oct 2014 12:23 p.m. PST

Yes McKinstry they used an actual working M4A3E8 and the Tiger I from the Bovington Tank Museum.

XRaysVision15 Oct 2014 12:24 p.m. PST

Brad Pitt can't win WWII; John Wayne's done that already--several times--in all branches of the service--in the ETA and PTA.

I'd love to see a Sgt. Rock movie!!

combatpainter Fezian15 Oct 2014 3:18 p.m. PST

This does not sound realistic. War is not like that. I know what war is like. Blah, blah, blah…

jacksarge15 Oct 2014 3:31 p.m. PST

It will probably be a very silly story, but I'm going for the tanks and the uniforms :-)

Sgt Rock, tanks… what's the problem here?

doug redshirt15 Oct 2014 5:34 p.m. PST

Its got tanks. That is all I need to know.

Its got tanks

It's got better than tanks – it has a real, working, Tiger tank. Everything else is irrelevant.

Ironwolf15 Oct 2014 7:49 p.m. PST

Sgt. Rock! Enough said, I'm seeing it. hahaha

Charlie 1215 Oct 2014 7:50 p.m. PST

For this type of movie, I go for one reason: to be entertained. As long as the plot isn't so absurd that I can't suspend belief or script, direction and the acting so bad as to be insulting, then I'm good…

And besides, its got TANKS… REAL WWII TANKS…. What's not to like?

raylev315 Oct 2014 9:09 p.m. PST

It's a movie….a war movie…nothing more or less.

And you know you want to see it. You know you do.

Acharnement16 Oct 2014 4:45 a.m. PST

I hadn't heard this was coming out- Thanks very much for the heads up. I will check when the Japanese release is. Definitely want to see it on the big screen!

I was at a friend's house when I first saw the ad for the movie. We were driving his wife crazy saying "Tank Movie!" over and over. laugh

It's opening today. I know I want to see it. I know I do. It has real tanks from WWII! Seriously, though- up here in Everett, Washington, Everett Mall is advertising that, in honor of the film "Fury", people can stop by Everett Mall and see the "actual tank" used in "Fury" from Paul Allen's private collection! Reality check: the ads may fool non-educated people into believing the "actual tank" from "Fury" will be there on display, when in fact Paul Allen's Sherman is an early-war 75mm-gunned Sherman, where as "Fury" is an M4A3E8 76mm-gunned Sherman. I will still see the movie and the early-war Sherman at Everett Mall anyway. For good measure, Paul Allen should have next to his Sherman's side his "Hetzer" tank destroyer from his modest collection. That would be cool to have the tank in the center court of the mall rather than the parking lot…

Went and saw it on premier day here, and thought it was very good. The scene engaging the German MLR with an exchange with PaK Guns is at close range, but there's many near misses which I thought a little dramatic, but then I think "700 meters" (or yards) is called out as the range, so then it became clear the scene is actually shot "zoomed in" for the viewer to discern the German defensive positions. I will certainly enjoy seeing Fury again!

Cloudy19 Oct 2014 6:31 a.m. PST

I saw "Fury" twice and there is some great stuff and some stupid stuff. The dressing up of the M4's was great! It was fantastic seeing them dirtied up and festooned with baggage and there were several scenes that almost looked "real" but unfortunately let down a bit by the infantry acting. The acting performances put in by the tank crew were pretty good with a personal best-ever for Shia LaBeouf (IMHO). Brad Pitt would have killed the most obnoxious member of his crew long before the events in the movie though. I won't give away anything else but for me, the story just didn't seem to flow. I enjoyed it more the second time around and I'll buy the Director's Cut DVD when it comes out but it really wasn't as good as SPR.
