Little Wars will be moving, starting in 2017 Little Wars has a new home. The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. We have secured a 2 year deal with the Westin.

While we have enjoyed our time at The Dupage Expo Center, the owner of the facility has made the decision to put the building up for sale. They are now longer accepting new contracts. This put us in a position to find a suitable location for the convention.

This is a very good move for us. The primary concerns I had when looking for a new site were, the cost for the site, and desired dates. We were able to maintain the last weekend in April as the dates for the convention, and we were able to get a deal that will actually be 300.00 less than what we were paying at the DuPage Expo Center. We have locked in these cost saving through 2017.

So once again…there are no changes for the Little Wars 2015 convention.

Isn't that starting in 2016?

Good choice. That is where Adepticon used to be held and it is a nice hotel and facility.

Let me try this once more.

Little Wars will be moving, starting in 2016 Little Wars has a new home. The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. We have secured a 2 year deal with the Westin.

The Westin is located at 70 Yorktown Shopping Center, Lombard, Illinois. They have 500 guest rooms and suites and 39,000 sq ft of function space.

The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center offers the following:
- complimentary Wi-fi in all guest rooms
- complimentary parking for all attendees
- complimentary access to the Westin Fitness Center for all attendees
- complimentary shuttle service within 5 miles of the hotel
- walking distance to an in-door shopping center
- group rate valid three days prior and post event dates

There is a loading dock within the facility for use by the vendors. Game masters can unload and enter through doors that lead to the Grand Ballroom. All games will be in one room. The Vendors will be located in an adjacent room. There will be another adjacent room for the flea market & War College.

There will be food and beverage consessions available to those that desire to purchase something fast and get back to their tables to play. There are many quality near-by places to get something to eat. Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse is located in the facility.

The rooms are exceptional. The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center was the former home to Adepticon. They outgrew the facility and were kind enough to recommend them to us.

The Little Wars 2015 Convention guide will contain not only information about the hotel, but pictures that show the Grand Ballroom & Guest Rooms as well.

- complimentary Wi-fi in all guest rooms

Better check on that. That wasn't the case before. For those that care.

Great eating in the area too. I recommend the Sushi place in the Yorktown Center and REALLY recommend the Chama Guacha Brazilian Steakhouse, a few minutes away (go hungry).

Great news!!!!!!!!!!! Mike Adams

RKE Steve15 Oct 2014 7:18 a.m. PST

Bowman, you are correct the Wi Fi in the rooms is not free. But they do have free WiFi in all public areas and lobby according to their website.

RKE Steve15 Oct 2014 12:05 p.m. PST

However our contract says Guest rooms do get free wi fi. so we will get that clarified.

Inkpaduta13 Nov 2014 11:32 a.m. PST

Sounds like a good spot. Now I have to check where it is in location to Milwaukee and see if I am driving farther or not.

It's only 17 miles east of St Chaz--probably 30 minutes of chicago pain.

Interstate access was one of the criteria I had in mind when looking for a suitable location.

There is also a small group of women that will be working on getting some off site spouse activities organized for those that attend.

Tommy2015 Nov 2014 9:34 p.m. PST

Inkdaputa, it's probably just a bit closer for you.

lasalle012, thanks for the head's up! Sounds like you found a great new location. It's a bit closer for me as well, though I never had a problem with St. Charles. I do miss Lincolnshire, though…

lasalle012

NP, I'll pm you our vendor that we have had bring in tables at the Westin the last five years and will be using at the Schaumburg.

Thanks for the PM.
I do have very fond memories of the conventions at the Lincolnshire, however they made it impossible for us to stay there.

I think the new location will work well for us, and may offer new possibilities

deleted22222222218 Nov 2014 9:10 a.m. PST

For those that choose to stay at the Westin I plan to have swag bags made available to them as well as other special offers. But again, those would only be available to those that book rooms and stay at the Westin.

Interesting, I had never heard of the convention.

jpipes24 Nov 2014 7:06 a.m. PST

As for coming from Milwaukee, the current site is 106 miles from the heart of Milwaukee, the new location is 93 miles. Technically it is shorter but caveat is you likely will spend more time on I294 which depending on the time of day can be extra brutal. Overall I'd say it doesn't appear to be a dramatic change either way.

deleted22222222225 Nov 2014 7:08 a.m. PST

Traffic is always a problem in the Chicagoland area. That stretch of I294 usually moves well, and while busy, traffic also moves well when you get off I294 to the hotel.

I am excited about the location and think it will be a good move.

Bowman25 Nov 2014 2:52 p.m. PST

I'll be there. To be honest, part of that has to do with moving to the Westin. Heck,I'll even put on a game.

deleted22222222201 Dec 2014 7:19 a.m. PST

Thats good, what type of game are you planning on running.

Dunedain05 Dec 2014 3:57 p.m. PST

Excellent Location

Bowman06 Dec 2014 11:08 a.m. PST

Thats good, what type of game are you planning on running?

No idea. I do have a while to think about it. It'll be Historical or VSF. It will definitely be 28mm.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion. Contact the guys from Badger Airbrush, (they are local, Franklin Park I believe) . They put on classes and are vendors. They are always at Adepticon and are excellent.
