Hi there,

these cool minis are tempting me more and more everyday! Love the style. But now I wonder about proper rules that fit the space fantasy minis to go with them. Im even thinking about using W40k rules (rogue trader edition of course) to go with them. Any experiences? Other cool space fantasy rules for the usual platoon sized battles?

I would try Fireteam Andromeda. It lets you build all kinds of forces including "drive me closer so I can hit them with my sword" types of science fantasy.

The revised edition has just been released. My "review" of the first edition is here:

Have you played "Moth Ion Age"? It's written for Ion Age 28mm, but should work for platoon sized 15mm play. Has alot of similarities to USEME, but with more crunch.

Other sci-fantasy rules worth considering

No Limits
Warengine
Blasters and Bulkheads

I use the old Rogue Trader rules. I just use cm in place of inches. They work a treat.

Gruntz will let you make the game play anyway you like. Easy to play too.

40k 3rd edition, using only the army lists that are included in the back of that book.

I second the suggestion for No Limits.

You folks are amazing, capable of coming everytime I ask for a ruleset with new unheard options!

"40k 3rd edition, using only the army lists that are included in the back of that book."
I second this, plus VDR, and would add Fast and Dirty.

Fast and Dirty – it is free and it is a great ruleset. I'd try it before buying something else.

Fast and Dirty 4th edition is okay. 5th edition is a disjointed mess frown

Capt Flash15 Oct 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

Yes FAD4 is what I was referring too. I haven't even looked at 5…
4 is complete and IMHO perfect.

Yes, FAD4 is a really good free rule set, better than many of the ones that you pay for. 5 is incomplete and isn't very well organized.

I have really been enjoying USE ME Sci-Fi. It is very simple, but easy to add to. As an example I have given the Maia MPI carried by the Shia Khan a 6" range and a 1" burst to model something shorter ranged than a standard rifle, but more effective than just a side-arm.

I really like the classification of models into Infantry, Light Vehicles, Medium Vehicles, etc.

I give models with powered close combat weapons the "Close Combat Specialization" bonus, other models just fight as their type.

They are a great range of miniatures aren't they?
