I bought a fleet of vessels whilst at Derby in a pre arranged private sale.

I now need.

a couple of hundred pirates, including crew, sword and pistol armed, and musket armed.

more captains,

rowers,

guns,

bow and stern chasers.

crew for guns.

and a dozen jolly boats.

I am also looking for female pirates, and for 1700 period royal marines.

(I don't want to spend my christmas money in advance… so discount if possible… )

The Gray Ghost12 Oct 2014 3:36 p.m. PST

Old Glory, Dixon, Black Scorpion, Artizan, Crusader, Brigade Games, Eureka, Foundry
I like a lot of the fantasy ones like Black Scorpion, Warmachine, Freebooter, Reaper what you think a pirate should look like as opposed to what the really looked like

Great suggestion. Old Glory is probably the most "discounted" option. With the amount of stuff you're buying, you'd definitely benefit from their "Old Glory Army" deal which is basically paying $50 USD to get 40% off everything for a year.

The Gray Ghost12 Oct 2014 3:42 p.m. PST

what I did was to buy cheap cannon fodder pirates then spent a little more on characters

Maddaz11112 Oct 2014 3:45 p.m. PST

ok – thanks…

clarify… Don't want huge figures (so no fantasy pirates compatible with GW scale)

Don't want resin miniatures, or multipart kits (a two piece miniature is ok… if its a sword or weapon arm for example..)

I don't want to spend more than one pound fifty a figure.. or thereabouts

Maddaz11112 Oct 2014 3:48 p.m. PST

I am in the uk.. Old Glory.. seems expensive.

(does the card work with postage and import duties…?)

additionally… I need swappable figure heads.. and nameplates and flags for the ships, any suggestions.

The Gray Ghost12 Oct 2014 3:54 p.m. PST

small to large
Dixon, Old Glory, Brigade Games, Eureka ( Artizan, Crusader, Foundry are all very close in scale) but all will work together.
Flags…The Warflag site, if it's still up
it is

Maybe Foundry has a pirate 'horde' available. Otherwise, OG is probably still cheaper than the other options even if you don't have access to the army card, and has everything you need, and this is one of its best ranges.

Eureka pirates are very good. I have a few.

Also they make some gear for the ships. A wheel, figurehead, cannons, etc.

If your limit is 1.50 pound per figure, then the Foundry horde might be want you want. Look under "hordes" button on their web site and they have a pirate horde of 60 figures.

Also Redoubt, Irregular, Steve Barber and North Star make pirates.

Hang around bars on the waterfront, drug their drinks and shanghai them. Beware the one-legged man….

Cerdic12 Oct 2014 11:57 p.m. PST

Have a scan down this list of manufacturers. The ones to investigate will have 'pirates' listed as one of their ranges…..

Old glory have a UK version; their website is currently MIA and has been for ages[1].

IST they were something like 24 quid for a pack of 30 figures at one point. Buuuut they're a random pick of poses, so you may get duplicates.

[1] Why do companies do this? Take down their website for indeterminate "building a new one" durations?

Henry Martini13 Oct 2014 5:41 a.m. PST

For a long time most OG packs consisted of five or six different bodies with an equivalent number of head variants, with the result that no two figures were alike – and I think the pirate range was produced within that era.

Huscarle13 Oct 2014 12:29 p.m. PST

I'll recommend the Foundry ones, but there are plenty of others out there.
North Star "On the 7 Seas" Calico Jack's crew has Mary read & Anne Boney, but they maybe too pricey. link
Bronze Age Miniatures have some Pirate lasses

Two words "Irregular Miniatures" just ordered some really nice sculpts and £1.00 GBP a fig (posted meg quick too).

Can't give you a link as their site doesnt work that way but just pick 28mm at te bottom and scroll down to pirates in the side bar (oh and they are not huge, just about 28mm to top of head)

Cheers Roger.

ordinarybass14 Oct 2014 7:12 a.m. PST

I don't have any of the pirate figs, but all the OG packs I have are as Henry says. A number of shared bodies, with different heads and sometimes minor gear changes. I don't exactly recall, but I think there may have been some doubles, but I don't think I've ever gotten more than two of a single sculpt.

Maddaz,
Are you looking for figs with separate heads, or sprues of heads?

Maddaz11115 Oct 2014 4:51 p.m. PST

No I'm looking for figure heads for the ship's, as in a thing under the bow sprit…
