The title says it all really, does anyone make semi-historical 15mm Amazons ? By semi I mean in Homeric or early hoplite Greek

Fantasy figures that follow the semi historical style would also be good.

TIA

In 15mm, there are at least four good options for Amazons:

Museum Miniatures makes nude amazons. I once did a Hordes of the Things army with these.

Falcon USA do three female Skythian horse archers, one of which is topless. These are really the closest to "historical" amazons based on archaeological evidence found at the Thermodon river in modern Turkey.

Irregular makes fantasy Xena-easque amazons.

Black Raven does some VERY busy greek-style amazons, but they run closer to 18mm and tower over proper 15s. They also have very thick bases. I wound up using mine as 28mm Amazon Halflings.

Yes but -

The Museum ones are just naked women. Nothing 'Greek' about them

A single unit of Falcon horse archers looks like an option, but they need infantry to support them

Irregular are ideal for Xena, but again, very little 'Greek' on show

Yes, Black Raven are too large for use with other figures.

Given how many suitable figures there are in 28mm, it's very dissapointing.

Yes, it is. There are so many amazing 28mm ranges I would have loved to see in 15mm (before my perfect vision stopped being perfect up close) and so many awesome 15mm ranges that I would love to see in 28mm.

The Museum figures are "mildly" Greek with spears and round shields, but so was much of the ancient world.

What's really needed is a 15mm range like the Foundry ones.

Absolutely spot on ….

Or the Shadowforge ones…

Have you been reading Steven Pressfields 'Last of the Amazons' again, and got the urge for the army?

Maybe these at Rebel Minis?

I had not seen those from Rebel. Nice to see some more 15mm Amazon love.

I'm seeing if it's possible to get Amazon allies for a semi-historical Trojan army. Rebel minis are nice, but somewhat more Zena than I wanted.

If you can get them, the Falcon USA Skythian girls would be your closest historical match. Unless your army list isn't allowing any mounted troops.

Lone Gunman Games has Amazons in the Armies of Arcana line. Seperate riders available also if you don't want to mount them on panthers.

Kind of Xena like, but Sandra Garrity scupts..

Xyston's Skythian range includes both mounted and foot women warriors in 15mm.

By the way, there are a couple of interesting BBC Podcasts about the Trojan War and the Amazons here -

I use Minifigs Indian Maiden Guard as fantasy Amazon 'hoplites': link

They are small 15s and only available in one pose but I think they look pretty good when formed in ranks. They are unarmoured and the shields are rectangular with a rounded top.

Black Raven?

In 15mm the Lone Gunman figures are very nice. They do look l Ike Xena, but that is not entirely a bad thing. He sells single figures by request and also does skirmish packs with one of each pose.

123Mac21 Oct 2014 9:14 a.m. PST

FYI the Amazon figures that Rebel and that Lone Gunmen sell are the same Armies of Arcana figures.

Guthroth21 Oct 2014 11:26 a.m. PST

This thread has been both interesting and depressing at the same time. The Rebel/Lonegunman/Arcana figures would be ok, but are 18mm so too tall.

The BlackRaven/Old glory are the right size, and come with chariots and cavalry, but the infantry have awful swords. Pure fantasy.

Iregular are too Xena-like, and Museum are just nekkid women.

The quest continues ….
