Hi Fellow Napoleonic fans…the lads at the Sheffield and Rotherham club have been very lucky in taking part and watching the development and playtesting a very good large scale Napoleonic ruleset:)….here's a bit of a sneak peak of what to come in 2015:)

Raise high the black flags, my children. No prisoners. No pity. I will shoot any man I see with pity in him.

Methusalah:)

Looks like Sam Mustafa stuff.

vtsaogames10 Oct 2014 10:59 a.m. PST

Looks like each stand represents a brigade or large regiment. That is a level of game I am very interested in. Does it look like these are near completion?

Hopefully Blucher will get to Waterloo in the nick of time:)

There are plenty of rules where each unit is a battalion or less. Not so many cover this ground.

One stand presents a Brigade? Yes please.

ernieR10 Oct 2014 1:03 p.m. PST

yes this is a Sam Mustafa game , yes it is 1 stand = 1 brigade , yes i'm really hoping this will be available early next year !

I love the idea of a grand tactical game but with an easy to use army builder.

I have been playing lots of Alter of Freedom – which is spectacular, but the labeling is a massive pain.

Really looking forward to this rule set. Brigade is the only way to go for Napoleonic games.

I am curious how one would mount an avant-garde unit. When on a base that was the size of a playing card, and even with small scale figure, it seems like it would be a challenge to represent grenzers, infantry, and light cavalry.

Have any of the playtesters tried it? Given how flexible Sam's basing systems are, I doubt it would count as a leak.

Royal Marine11 Oct 2014 5:27 a.m. PST

I suspect all of these questions will be answered once we see the complete set of rules in 2015. As you mention MadDrMark I don't expect any leakiness in the rules. Although one thing is for sure: Not everyone will like these rules with base = 1 Bde; it's Napoleonic and some of the customers will insist on squares, columns, lines and skirmish screens even though the rules will be a step above that detail.

ernieR11 Oct 2014 8:41 a.m. PST

our group is doing 6mm figs on 80x60 bases . 12 figs per battalion , arranged however the player likes
line , column , square , skirmishers out front , mounted officers , casualties . pretty much whatever you like .
Avant-garde should work .

ernieR11 Oct 2014 8:49 a.m. PST

a test base i did using some spare 7YW figs . this was done before we'd decided on 12 fig battalions and also has more skirmishers than it should have

Personally, I like the look of the 24 figure battalions you have, Ernie. And I think you could easily replace one of your infantry units with a line of cavalry to represent the diversity of an avant garde brigade, per my concern. I look forward to seeing the rules!

I enjoy tactical level games with the well known Napoleonic themes Royal Marines describes, but I would love to wet my feet in a game of this scale, where the concerns are those of an army commander.

taskforce5811 Oct 2014 1:16 p.m. PST

At 1 stand = 1 brigade, it looks like it is perfect with Odzial Osmy's 1/600 Napoleonic figs.

ernieR11 Oct 2014 7:47 p.m. PST

i'd love to do 24 man battalions , but they're a bit tight on the bases and since we're doing all 3 armies at Waterloo it would be a bit hard on the wallet too .

the avant-garde brigade would look great as you suggest .

Chortle Fezian11 Oct 2014 10:36 p.m. PST

That sample page you show is very professional. Your group has great DTP skills.

deephorse12 Oct 2014 1:38 p.m. PST

No Chortle. It's produced by Sam Mustafa.
