Just curious, what is the largest Old West game you've seen or run? What rules were used? How big? |

A wild west all day game using homemade one page skirmish rules on one side and rules for society on the other. There were 12 players, with one army player, one lawman and the rest citizens, plus an Indian player in an indian village. Citizens became outlaws when they broke the law. Each player had a character who could recruit other figures, idle around the table. The table was 24 feet long and had three towns on it and a railroad running the length of it, so players could move between towns to find buildings to occupy and start "rackets" in. Money was earned for various rackets, rustling, plus bribing players in off-table arrangements. Each town had a jail and you earned cash busting people out, earned cash from gambling in the casino building. Highlight of the game was the train being blown up to stop movement between towns, resulting in a four player gunfight in the middle of the desert and one player almost winning the game by capturing the casino and earning cash through gambling on the roulette wheel we had on table to use! There was also a great chase when some of the players realised one player was escorting mules carrying repeating rifles to the Indian player to trade, which would have resulted in the Indian player outgunning everyone else! It was immense, but almost killed me as umpire.

There was a very large game the I would see at historicon but I have not seen it since the convention moved. It had 3 or 4 towns with a stagecoach run along the length of the table. Indians, cowboy and bandits. It was very cool. Matthew |

Matt, that would be one of Leo Walsh's games. Unfortunately it's a little difficult to transport all that scenery from RI now that the convention has moved south. |

Will he be at fall in or cold wars? It would be nice to see. Matthew |

There was a massive Little Big Horn some years ago at Historicon. Three big table areas spread across the room. Multi-players at each table. Large amount of 28mm figures. |

I agree that Leo had the biggest and best Wild West games. |

Tonydyer – any chance you could share your all day scenario? I'd love to run that. Is there an email account I can contact you at? |

The biggest I have ever seen was at a show in the 70s when I was a kid. It might have been 'Southern Militaire'? I remember a massive table full of 54mm buildings and figures. No idea what rules were being used though! |

I am surprised some smart aleck hasn't said they played French in Mexico with lots of confederate veterans in 2/3mm and is therefore the largest because it features armies of thousands. |

If it was Southern Militaire it was probably my friends from Skirmish Wargames with their Old West rules. The largest game I've played in used these rules and we had a town spread across my mate's large living room floor as a farewell game before he went off to a lecturing job in South Africa. Typically of him, he managed to steer his character totally unscathed through the mayhem of a riot, jail break and bank robbery all occuring in the town and board the train to head of for his new life. |

Hi, my games have been on a 20 foot table with two towns and 23 players. Done that several times. The Warwagon ran between the town's. |
