"The complete exterior and interior restoration of the Memphis Belle is expected to take several more years. This week restoration crews attached the vertical stabilizer to the fuselage of B-17F "Memphis Belle". Plans call for the aircraft to be placed on display in the museum's World War II Gallery in spring 2018."

Very glad that the Air Force saved the bomber from those fools in Memphis. Right after the war, the bomber was put out on Mud Island in Memphis. But over the last 20 years nobody running the city thought too much about it.

The park (and bomber) became a spot to drink, spray paint and damage anything that they could get thier hands on.

There might not be much chance of saving Memphis from urban blight, but at least they pulled this piece of history out before it was gone.
