OK, there are a lot of reasons why Samsonov's army gets trashed at Tannenberg. The general was no genius but it strikes me the main reason was the CO of his VI Corps. That unit got routed on August 26. The CO didn't give word to the other Russian Corps or to army HQ for 24 hours and then pretended he'd had a reverse, not a thrashing.

If Samsonov had known this on August 27 he might at least have been able to escape. It would have been a defeat but not a disaster. It's another example of the difference between our games and reality. When one of our units gets stomped we know it right away.

Poor General Samsanov. For him, it was "Game Over."
