Beautifully done, a joy to pkay with I should think, though what is the evidence for Celtic Fanatics? |

Great work! I love the riot of color which is not something you usually see in ancient celtic armies. Lewisgunner, In the blog post he says it's taken from a referrence in Tacitus Annals. |

Thanks chaps! Hi Roy, I think the admixture of religious crazies and pyromaniacs at Mona, takes takes the typically extrovert Celtic warrior to a whole new level! :-) Adding the naked minis is somewhat anachronistic, but it helps to distinguish them from the other warbands. |

Will you be showcasing your new rules on Sunday? Still looking for a perfect set for ancients. |
BigRedBat | 06 Oct 2014 7:18 a.m. PST |
Hi getback, yes I will be. I am running a scenario based around the attack on Caesar's foraging party in Britain, in 55BC. I've run it three times before and it is quite entertaining… I hope to play the battle at least twice during the day, so if you are about and fancy a go you'd be most welcome. Best, Simon |

They look like a rough bunch to tangle with, Simon! Do they get dangling modifiers in melee? |
oldbob | 06 Oct 2014 9:45 a.m. PST |
Dangling modifiers, Do like the tattoo's. Simon has such a knack for great basing, which isn't as easy as it looks! |

Thanks chaps! Aaron, several of them have already got their choppers out. ;-). We'll have to see how they do on Sunday. I have an idea for another warrior band with armed women, youths and old men, but haven't identified enough suitable minis yet. Best, Simon |

Simon, great job. I do like the idea of the larger base for warbands. Have some Gauls and Celtiberians to do for Hannibal under Hail Caesar so will 'steal' your idea. Garry |

Cheers chaps! Nick away, Garry. Hi Mike! |

I'm not sure that the naked warriors are anachronistic. Roman tombstones show naked warriors under the hooves of Imperial troopers. Now that could be artistic convention, but it could just as easily mean that the northern barbarians were still turning up naked and 'worked up' to heroic deeds. Speidel in 'Germanic Warriors' is pretty convinced that the old ways continued on into the Early Medieval period. Its ' What does a fanatic do to be a fanatic? ' that interests me. I'm not sure the descriptions in Caesar or Tacitus really describe anything other than fairly conventional performance despite all the initial shouting and leaping about. |
BigRedBat | 07 Oct 2014 10:41 a.m. PST |
Hi Roy, yes that's a good point re the tombstones, which I'd forgotten. Re the fanaticism, my approach is to make them only a little more effective than their (marginally) more staid colleagues. That way they add variety, to what is a fairly restricted army list, without unbalancing things too much. |
