The UCM force detected the movement of the Scourge towards where they had seen a large PHR contingent deploy in the arctic frost.
The PHR must have also discovered where the Scourge egg clusters were and sent in a force to destroy them. The Scourge were not going to let this happen though. The first wave that was coming in would be too much for the PHR to handle and the small UCM strike force wouldn't be able to take on the Scourge if they took out the PHR.
And that was only if the second wave of Scourge didn't come in to reinforce them.
As it was the second wave was chasing the PHR dropships that had deployed the ground forces.
Much as it galled them, the UCM would have to save those traitorous scum from destruction.
The PHR walkers moved in conjunction with the APCs, the Phobos walkers already sending up a screen of AA fire to keep the Scourge marauders honest.
As the Scourge took some of the fire the marauders dropped low and deployed a swarm of their hover tanks, each one screaming towards the PHR APCs.
Some of the PHR dropships came up to deploy more infantry on the egg sites or provide more air cover with some scout walkers.
The UCM commander sent his infantry up to grab the tree line and try to engage the Scourge to prevent them from destroying the PHR APCs.
He deployed his Rapiers and Sabers in the path of the Scourge infantry drop ship and it was brought down by the AA fire they brought to bear on it.
The infantry got out of their wrecked transports and fired on the UCM tanks, destroying two.
Meanwhile the rest of the battlefield was scarred with the exchange of fire between PHR walkers and Scourge hover tanks.
The Immortals bravely poured out of the APCs onto their objectives, deploying the nanobots that would dig into the frozen earth and destroy the egg sacks.
A dropship raced overhead towards one of the sites but was brought down by AA fire from some reavers.
The Scourge tanks stayed focused on their objectives and despite horrific losses were able to protect most of the egg sites.
The PHR infantry suffered while the walkers reaped a bloody harvest in terms of Scourge hover tanks.
With the Second wave of Scourge vehicles approaching the PHR drops ships came back for their charges and left the field.
The damaged UCM force retreated as well.
Only three of the seven egg sites had been destroyed. Still heavy losses had been inflicted on the enemy without much being sustained in return.
It was a Pyrrhic victory for the Scourge.
