I am been thinking about the timeline for Robotech\Macross, the dates in the setting have come and gone and with the release of Robotech RPG Tactics game. This has made me think about a reimaging of the the first part of the storyline in the Robobtech cycle.

I would consider having the SDF-1 crash in 2019 instead of 1999.

What does the group mind think about this?

I just think of it as an alternate timeline. I do the same with Cyberpunk settings.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross came out in 1982 in Japan. At that time, 1999 would have been 17 years into the future. On the other hand, 2019 (or next week, for that matter) is a perfectly valid start date, not too far into the future. It is your campaign, so don't be afraid to tinker with the timeline to suit your storytelling needs.

What would I do? I say that the spacecraft that would come to be known as SDF-1 crashed on a remote island in the southern Pacific Ocean on 21 December 2012. laugh

Very cute idea about the 2012 link.

The only "problem" I see with changing the timeline is the the f-14 is no longer in use and so it would not be the main fighter of choice to emulate.

But its your world, do what you want.

Why change the years? Macross is an alternate reality to our own. In SDF Macross they still use giant CRT monitors in the year 2012 and cell phones were never invented.
