Fireforge has been a bit quiet about their future releases as of late since the last things they released have been their mongols.

Anyone know what they have been up to as of late? What ever happened to their Heavy Mongol Cavalry? I also heard they were working on Crusader Era Arabs, but haven't seen any greens for those.

Take a look at the Song of Blades and Heroes Facebook page. Someone posted a photo of some painted up Mongols that look really nice.

I went on the FF forum and asked that same question. They were to give a big announcement as to what their future plans are. I got no response, but lots of looks from others on the forum. When I asked a question here regarding future plans, I was told those questions should be asked on the forum by one of the FF owners. That would be Lord Ekard, on TMP and FF forum. So M'Lord, you have been back from holiday for three weeks and no announcement, let's hear it in both places. TIG (I am TIG in both places}

I always thought that Fireforge missed out big time, not bringing out the Muslim opposition for their crusaders right after the crusaders came out, instead of branching off with the Mongols.

They were carving a crusader niche out for themselves, with plastic figures and rules, then the mongols… shame…

axabrax30 Sep 2014 8:57 a.m. PST

Didnt they put up a notice somewhere that they were taking a summer break? Perhaps this is why it's so quiet.

I personally thought coming out with the Mongols was brilliant. Now they are in a space where they are avoiding competing with Perry and Gripping Beast. The Mongols are an awesome Crusader enemy, just for a later period. They can also be used for all types of fantasy games. Frankly, if they had come out with Crusades Muslims, I would've complained, "do we really need yet another Muslim range?"

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Unless you somehow base your figure ranges on democratic voting, you're never going to please everyone.

Royston Papworth30 Sep 2014 9:31 a.m. PST

Although until Gripping Beast brought out their Arab foot, there hasn't been a range of plastic Muslims… Plus aren't Mongols more allies of Crusaders than enemies? And the chances of those Korean Steppe foot making it to Outremer?

I do see your point, but still maintain it was a missed opportunity on their part…

I've never actually seen a game of Dues Vult being played. Is anyone playing it?

Glengarry530 Sep 2014 6:53 p.m. PST

There was more then the Crusades in the Holy Land and Iberia, the Knights Teutonics main efforts were in the eastern European pagan lands and versus the Orthodox Russians. The Knights Teutonic also fought Mongols! I'd like to see figures for the pagans and the Russians before yet more Arabs!

Royston Papworth01 Oct 2014 3:38 a.m. PST

But, if I remember correctly as it is a long time since I opened them, the rules focussed on the Holy Land, rather than the wider Crusades. I think there was mention of the Baltic,a couple of lists, but only it seemed in passing. This is why I think it was a missed opportunity.

If then Teutonics fought the Mongols, well that it fine, but, the Mongols main opposition were the Muslims. If they wanted to provide an enemy for the Teutonics, why not Russians or Prussians?

If there is even mention of the Mongols in Deus Vult, I missed it…

Manflesh01 Oct 2014 5:02 a.m. PST

I agree it was a missed opportunity. Deus Vult priomarily covers the crusdaes in the Holy Land, and there is still no decent way to make an Arab army that is affordable and carryable, due to the price and weight of metal cavalry.

I'd be interested in plastic Arab cavalry, and I guess will go to whoever produces a decent set first.

I wasn't aware of a shortage of Mongols either.

Someone has to be working on plastic Arab cavalry …. Though this is not a one-size-set-fits-all proposition.

I think I may know what the problem at FF might be. They said that the heavy mongol cav was going to be released in metal. There was an uproar, with me included, as to why one of the premier plastic figure companies was taking a step backward. Then they said they were going to change the heavy cav to resin. That may be the issue, be it molds or material, they may be having a problem. So I would expect that heavy mongol cav is next, with who knows what after that. Hoping like others for Saracen light cav. TIG {They were back from holiday Sept. 1st.}

For me a Sarecen force would be a no brainer to oppose the Templars. I think they would sell and would also be suitable for SAGA C & C as well.

tigrifsgt03 Oct 2014 11:53 a.m. PST

I just checked my question on the FF forum from Sept. 15th, it has 89 looks from other forum members, but still no response from them.

Joe106603 Oct 2014 7:53 p.m. PST

Having put together and painted up 4 boxes of infantry and 3 boxes of mounted crusaders i am ready for an enemy from Fireforge to start being released. However, since the miniatures were so enjoyable to put together i bought another 7 boxes to work on for the time being. So much diversity that I don't think even 2 look alike. Maybe try out Barons wars to tide me over.

tigrifsgt04 Oct 2014 1:27 p.m. PST

Joe1066: I could use a few FF foot bodied to use for longbowmen or crossbow. I have lots of bits from GB, CG, and WF. Is there anything that you need that you would be willing to trade for? Figures standing almost straight up would best suit my needs. I'm going to try out Lion Rampant with the three boxes of FF I've built so far. TIG

Joe106605 Oct 2014 8:09 p.m. PST

Thanks for the offer TIG,but it appears you and I are on the same path. More bits than bodies and I seem to be making the situation worse! I will have to look into Lion Rampant my local shop has a copy. A friend of mine is now hooked on this time period as well. Will have to keep prodding FF to release more.

tigrifsgt06 Oct 2014 6:41 a.m. PST

The more FF and GB that you build the more great parts you have left over with no bodies to put them on.

tigrifsgt08 Oct 2014 12:08 p.m. PST

Joe1066: Take a look at the archers from Perry that will be out by around Christmas. They may be the additional troops I am looking for. Add some GB foot Arabs and you have a war. Mongols will have to go on the back burner for now.

kallman08 Oct 2014 12:38 p.m. PST

Having recently purchased and received my copy of Lion Rampant all of the FireForge sets are a great way to create just about everything you would need for a Retinue to play with those wonderful rules. I was actually glad to see them do the Mongols as I have been growing a Teutonic Order force and want to do a Battle of Liegnitz game.

tigrifsgt10 Oct 2014 11:33 a.m. PST

In a message to me on the FF forum, they said we need to wait more time to see what's coming from them next.
