…almost exactly 100 years after WWI sinking. "Considered the oldest mystery of naval history, the AE1 submarine was deployed and lost in September 1914. Together with AE2, it was the first submarine purchased by the Commonwealth government, and disappeared mysteriously in waters off Papua New Guinea with 35 officers and crew on board. The crew of the boat became Australia's first casualties of the WWI…"

Another example of the Press running off at the mouth. The headline should have been 'Navy still can't find the AE1', only in the last line do they mention that the Navy really didn't find AE1. Nothing on the Australian War Memorial site either. |

Agreed, poor reporting – 'believed to have made a breakthrough in the search' 'has begun searching' 'told the ABC the missing submarine hadn't been found.' and 'is conducting the search' are NOT good matches for 'submarine found by Australian navy!' |
