I am currently finishing (after much procrastination) a stand=platoon scale regiment of late-war German paratroopers. Which means I'm going to want to drop them on a table in the near future.

Does anyone have any good scenarios that would require a full 3-battalion regiment, perhaps Carentan or the Ardennes? How many do I need for Ortona?

Ideas, gentlemen?

For free, im not too sure. However CD does have a number of books/scenarios that are flawlessly researched you could use. Check out the website, it is a great resource.

I don't think there was more than 2 Bns defending Ortona ,Im thinking there was one. There is mention of engineers of course and armour in the south east of the city…

I believe the Normandy battles involving the 6th Para Regt. were piecemeal affairs. Carentan was just a Company +/- in strength. (I believe the larger battle outside of town involved Pz-Grens.) Also think St. Marie du Mont was a smaller size affair.

I recall that the regt. was able to pull together in somewhat multi battalion strength near St. Come du Mont. I think it was here that one battalion was surrounded and forced/bluffed to surrender.

I too would be interested in any info on scenarios.

There was a German FJ drop in the Bulge as I recall, at least Battalion strength although I think they ran into substantial weather trouble.

Howdy,

There is the CD-TOB scenario book focusing on German paras, "In the Clutches of Eagles"

Supposedly there was a regimental strength drop of German paras as a relief attempt for the Courland pocket in late '44, but I haven't been able to find any confirmation or details.

Yes, there is, and it is quite good. However, it only goes through 1942, including scenarios for the proposed airborne invasion of Malta.

Just recalled that Skirmish Campaigns scenario book "Normandy '44 – First Hours" contains two scenarios that were close together in time and locality. Although written for smaller skirmish sized games, you may be able to expand the units from squad to platoon size. Good luck.

The battle of bloody gulch.
101st defending carentan against 17thss panzergrenadier and 6th fallschirmjager.
only 2 battalions.

defense of brest had a full fallschirmjager division

you should probably just get some literature on fallschirmajger.

If you want more information on either battle let me know

Is Primosole Bridge late enough?

Mserafin:
You might try the attacks by fallschrimjaegers against the South Alberta Regiment supported by two ad hoc composite companies of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders reinforced by some Lincoln and Welland Regiment. The battles in and around St. Lambert sur Dives are good fodder for scenarios. For example German Fallschrimjaegers being hunted down by M5A1 Stuarts And Crusader III AA tanks northeast of the SAR position.
Or there is Kampfgruppe Chill operating in Holland around Woensdrecht in late Sept. or Oct? 1944. Brutal battles between the fallschiimjaeger sand Canadian forces. Cheers.

For the Malta scenarios, you are thinking of "When Olympus Trembled". The CD book "In the Clutches of Eagles" includes scenarios 6,7,8,9 and 10 from 1943 or later, in the Mediterranean, East Front and West Front.

Have a look at the Battlefront: WWII Scenarios page in fireandfury.com

You'll find lots of scenarios there for involving Fallschirmjaeger, including Normandy, Ortona, Market-Garden, 's-Hertogenbosch, the Reichswald and others, including the drop on Leros.

So I followed up Grumble's correction of my description of "Clutches of Eagles" by going out and buying it. In it I found an old friend – the US 2nd Infantry's attack on Hill 192 in Normandy. Here's a quick description of the game:

Lots and lots of hedgerows. Setting it up took me back to a CD game I played at a convention in Florida many moons ago. It was the same scenario, but the presenter (the most estimable Mike Patterson) had used GHQ's Terrain Maker and a some aerial photos to make the most beautiful table I've ever seen. My opponent and I were more experienced than the other players, so we'd get through the turn more quickly than the others. Mike apologized for this, and I told him I did not mind, since I could sit back with a whisky and enjoy the French countryside.

Go to the CD forums and look for Bob Mackenzie. The guy practically bleeds CD scenarios.
