Bob Runnicles30 Jan 2015 1:25 p.m. PST

So is your brother all set up now Keith? I'm also a Brit living in Florida, any ex-Pat discount? Lol. Anyway, how do I go about ordering a set of rules from him? Direct from you and he'll send them out?

keiththej31 Jan 2015 5:27 a.m. PST

Hi Bob

Email me direct from the wargames dispatch website and we can chat

Thanks

Keith

Bob Runnicles02 Feb 2015 1:56 p.m. PST

Email sent Keith! Looking forward to your response :)

Does he cavalry have to be based on the same size stands as the foot? I'm going for 50mm squares for the foot but I'm thinking three cavalry figs on a 70/75mm wide base. Of course the obvious thing would be to put the horse on 50mm bases as well as they will fit but I thought a bigger base would give me more scope for interesting bases.

keiththej04 Feb 2015 2:58 p.m. PST

Hi Mashrewba

All of my 28mm kit is based 40x40 for infantry and 50x50 for cavalry

So long as you can distinguish that one base fights one base then you should be ok

Thanks

Keith

mashrewba05 Feb 2015 2:10 a.m. PST

Cheers Keith -I ordered the rules yesterday!!

keiththej06 Feb 2015 11:03 a.m. PST

mashrewba06 Feb 2015 12:24 p.m. PST

Got them this morning -sumptuous product. The cards and QRS are very luxurious.

mashrewba06 Feb 2015 12:25 p.m. PST

I've spent the day basing up musketeers -I have an enormous ECW lead mountain…

Jeff of SaxeBearstein06 Feb 2015 10:37 p.m. PST

mashrewba,

If I might offer a bit of advice . . .

Get your "lead mountain" on painting sticks and get them primed. Once figures are already primed you will find a few minutes here and there to paint . . . but if they are still bare lead then you can't really do anything.

So get them primed, sir.

-- Jeff

PS, I like to start with their flesh . . . for some reason that starts to "bring them to life" for me.

mashrewba07 Feb 2015 2:50 a.m. PST

I'm there my friend -
I stick the figs in groups of 5 to strips of beer mats with super glue followed by mass black spraying.
When I peel them off this base they can be stuck to the plywood bases with PVA as there is a layer of super glue/ beer mat which sticks better than PVA to metal. The PVA also allows positioning as it takes a while to dry.The base is also sprinkled with fine sand.
Tile grout is used to finish off with bits of broom bristle and little stones.
Next the figs are dry brushed brown and they are ready to play. Painting happens next as my leisure.
Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement -you are so right about the flesh.
Here are a few shots WIP with my previous 90mm bases and the current 50mm regime. I might still field the 90mm as I like the look of them but 50mm square is more flexible.

I thought I'd do most officers, drummers and colour bearers on round single bases although there are a few lurking on the musketeer bases.
As you can see there are a couple of real veteran miniatures here and there my favourite being the Minifigs guy complete with Lobster pot!!!

The Colonel11 Feb 2015 12:53 p.m. PST

Can someone explain the army list system? I can see the minimum-maximum in units, but don't understand the tables with "card number" and "number of cards".

Thanks,

The Colonel

mashrewba11 Feb 2015 2:32 p.m. PST

I must admit it took me a while to work this out (sorry Keith!!)

The key is that all the unit cards have a number on them.

You pick so many of each number- e.g. 3 of card number 4 and 3 of card number 5 etc -this will give you more cards than you the number of units you want e.g you want ten units but draw 14 cards -you then pick 10 of the 14 cards and you end up with randomised unit strength and quality.
You still decide on the number of units you want although I'm sure you could tinker with that if you like.
Much less hassle than a points system and much more interesting – you have to fight with what you get.
The cards ensure that you are picking from a pool of likely units for the appropriate year of the war.

keiththej11 Feb 2015 2:50 p.m. PST

Mashrewba

I couldn't have put it any better myself!!

Believe me when I say it took me hours and hours to work them out!!

Thanks

Mikey Rebel10 Sep 2015 1:31 a.m. PST

looking at ytour pictures just trying to see how many you base and bases used.
is it 1:2 12 pike and 24 muskets, more impoartantly, how many pike stands and do you mix officers drummer ensign etc in with pikes or seperate stands
cheers
Mike

keiththej17 Sep 2015 1:30 p.m. PST

Hi Mike

We use 4 to a base for all infantry except dismounted dragoons

We then use the ratio idea and you get 8 pike 16 musket or even 12 Pike and 24 musket

There are other ratios also anything from 0:1 up to 1:0

We generally mix in the drummers etc but like to show a command stand although a command stand isnt relevant in the rules as its the brigade commander who is important

Thanks

keith

BombAlleySAM04 Oct 2015 10:19 p.m. PST

Are these rules suitable for 15mm at all?

Dexter Ward05 Oct 2015 1:48 a.m. PST

The rules are suitable for any scale figures.
You might want to adjust ranges/moves a bit for 15mm, but that would be all that is required (simplest is to make up a 2/3 scale ruler).
They work best with square-ish bases, but I doubt it is critical so long as both sides are based the same.

BombAlleySAM05 Oct 2015 2:22 a.m. PST

Marvellous news. All our chaps are based on 1" bases so thet works. Still looking for the Holy Grail of ECW rules which I like!

keiththej08 Oct 2015 1:31 p.m. PST

Hi Guys

Yes 15mm figures are fine

As Dexter said f both sides are based the same then you shouldn't have too many problems

We'll be at Warfare in reading if anyone fancies jumping in on a game

cheers

Keith

keiththej03 Nov 2015 8:50 a.m. PST

Field Marshal04 Nov 2015 4:51 p.m. PST

Do you have an Australian distributor Keith. I would be keen to get a hold these rules.
I have my infantry figures based on 60mm by 30mm bases and cav on 60 by 60…….is that going to be a problem?

keiththej06 Nov 2015 3:13 p.m. PST

Hi Field Marshal

No problem at all as your frontages are the same which to be honest is better than we have!! Ours are 40mm wide for Inf and 50mm for cav

They should work very well with your basing

I'm afraid there is no Australian distributor but you can order direct from the website

Email me from the website if you have any questions

cheers

Keith

keiththej17 Nov 2015 3:01 p.m. PST
