Today I was stuck on my recliner today after my lumbar epidural and so I started watching again a few episodes of Farscape.

Then it occurred to me … some of the Farscape ships kinda look Victorian-ish (or "Steampunk"-ish), don't they?

Example – check out this "Leviathan transport pod":

Looks like all it needs is loads of rivets, a few etched scroll artwork and done, right? I wonder if there were others, and I just never happened to make the connection until now.

Thoughts?

Add a sail or a smoke stack and you're good to go.

I'm just waiting for a bunch of Orks to swarm in to attack and a platoon of space marines to jump out on the hull to repel them.

But in all honesty Farscape had a wide range of ships if I can remember correctly. From Victorian styling as shown to organic like the ship they were on.

Add lots of rivits, plus some copper wire running here and there, and some electonic parts and I think you would have something really cool going on, OH and add a few of those rhinestone gems here and there as well something that would look like access points

And how about a framed glass "bubble" for the bridge?

Well, with organic tech available(Moya was a Liveship), standard tech may be baroque and static.
Orks would've fit right in the Uncharted Territories.

They kinda did! They were called Tavleks:

Great inspiration for BFG ork ships

I need to watch that show again.

And a lumbar epidural sounds awful. I hope you get well soon.

Hope you aren't in too much discomfort with that that LE. Also EXCELLENT spot on the VSF/SP potential!

Re-watched Farscape in the last couple of years. It is truly one of the best SF programmes ever made (although season 1 has some cringe-worthy episodes).

The design was always more convincing than other SF as it is often dirty and scruffy. The ships vary enormously in size and style. I always felt it had more in common with Dr Who than Star Trek. Current film "Guardians of the Galaxy" has a similar style.

If Farscape looks Steampunk it's only because Steampunk has hitched on the back of the design.

One of the reasons the design is so strong is that model makers and designers were the creative force behind it, rather than being brought in afterwards.

Trebian,

Looks like they had a lot of fun coming up with the final designs:

Even replicating organic ships like Moya and B-5's Vorlon ships looks like fun:

I only know of one other example of an organic vessel, and it's from a Star Trek TNG episode:

My experience with epidurals are to get OUT OF discomfort; hope it worked!

Don't know about most of the ships, but still say the Peacekeeper cruisers look like someone started with one of my favorite disposable razor handles…

Farscape suffered (to my eyes, i know many disagree) the same problem as Blakes Seven and Firefly. Love the show and characters, but just don't like the heroes ship.
Though i could live with Moya especially if i compare her to other biotech ships like the Lexx.
The biggest problems i had with the command carriers were the giant arcs that ran from front to back. i like to be able to guess what something does when i am looking at a ship and they threw me off. The Scarran Battleships were groovy though and had rotating turrets and a bridge tower which is always a good thing in my mind.
The Prowler however is one of my favourite fighters from any show.
But i do appreciate that the ships for the most part gave the impression of being from a part of the galaxy with cultures that had a radically different design aesthetic than ours

Thanks guys!

Yeah. Still unable to walk or stand much, and can't bend over without screaming like a little girl. I just wanted to try the shot and not dive into a second surgery.
