I am talking about the Canadian American conflicts of course. With some burning of Washington, New Orleans and Yankee frigates cheating by having more guns than they should.

TMP history has shown that if a period or war had its own Board, that the number of articles or threads go up.
Some may say that this is served by the Napoleonics Boards, or the 19th Century Boards but I think not.
By past TMP practice, if 40 people indicate they would "support" a board proposal in a Poll, that the Editor will give us one.

Would you support a War of 1812 Board? I would.

Yesthatphil11 Sep 2014 12:12 p.m. PST

I would not have any material for such a board at present but would certainly keep it switched on …

I'm surprised – but in itself, that would be a good reason to have one.

In which case count me in.

I would support a War of 1812 board.

Yes and without reservation. I have been asking for a War of 1812 Board for about fours years now. I think it is about time.

To those who say no because the Napoleonic Board covers it, I would disagree. My main concern is that when you do a search in either of the boards you don't always get the message because frequently submitters don't always put 'War of 1812' in the header. A separate War of 1812 board would make searching for relevant messages so much easier.

As to whether it should be on the 19th century board or the Napoleonic, there are good arguments for both and so it matters not. I would prefer the Napoleonic Board.

Thanks for raising the issue Winston.

I would support it and likely be a regular poster/contributor to such a board. I find that although it could fall neatly into Napoleanics and/or 19th century, the posts regarding this war tend to get lost in the the heavier tidal waves of other stuff on those boards.

Sure – there is lots to game there

My buddy and I were working on forces for War of 1812 gaming (Crysler's Farm specifically), but he passed away last year.

I however, would still be interested in the board. Once I get motivated again, and back to painting, I'm hoping to carry on with the W-1812 stuff and maybe run a game for the 'locals.'

Schlesien11 Sep 2014 12:55 p.m. PST

Support it? Sure…why not.

I keep hearing this period's siren song. Never done anything about it (yet) though except for some rules purchases.

But this board might push me over the edge so sure, count me in.

UpperCanada11 Sep 2014 5:51 p.m. PST

Support & eagerly await, if it happens. GH

Always a fight that interests me. I got to teach an elective on it in my middle school last year.

An additional thought. What about an early 19th century American wars board? Indian wars in the mid west and south, war of 1812, perhaps up to Mexican American?

John the OFM11 Sep 2014 7:34 p.m. PST

Of course.
Winston knew I would say that.

A board it could call home would be very welcome!!

No. None at all,

John the OFM11 Sep 2014 8:27 p.m. PST

Do Canadians call the War of 1812 "The War of 1812"?

privateer Fezian11 Sep 2014 9:38 p.m. PST

Yes I would good idea

Auld Minis ter11 Sep 2014 10:10 p.m. PST

OFM, yes we do. In fact, it was probably named by a Canadian, as we are known for our mundane, casual approach to most things. No call of patriotism naming it the War of Defence Against Aggression, the Great Patriotic War, the War of Canadian Independence etc etc. We don't want to further aggravate the situation by using some grandiose title so a factual statement should be used.
Well, let's see…it started in 1812. So let us call it the War of 1812. Makes sense.

Of course Napoleon goes and confuses the whole situation by starting a CAMPAIGN in 1812, but we military historians should be able to make the distinction, no? :-)

OSchmidt12 Sep 2014 3:49 a.m. PST

I support this though I dread it. I've been steadfastly resisting going into this because I'm afraid it will suck my in completely. But what the heck, I'm 66 how much longer do I have to live anyway? How much damage can it do in the time left.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP12 Sep 2014 3:51 a.m. PST

Yes.

Surprisingly, yes to get this side show off of the Napoleonics Board.

Not that it will work because people will still cross post

Zargon12 Sep 2014 4:20 a.m. PST

Is this where we walloped those turf stealing patronizing Patriots of the 13?
:) if so count me in.
Actually I'm in it for the cool Napolionic style uniforms and you can field Injuns too.

Davoust12 Sep 2014 6:54 p.m. PST

OH YES!!

Will the board be limited or mainly about the northern zone
of operations?

Lots of fighting in the south with Indian tribes, Spanish what if's etc.

KSeward13 Sep 2014 10:17 a.m. PST

I would support a War of 1812 board.

Read what I said in my opening post. Is New Orleans in the north? The naval battles?
I did not start this to limit what people think should be included in the "War of 1812". After all, New Orleans was fought in 1815! And allegedly after the war was over.

Skeptic13 Sep 2014 5:06 p.m. PST

Yes.
