I am looking for some 28mm Vietnam era Sailors. Ideally these would include Sailors in the olive utilities with short sleeves wearing berets and/or helmets with flak vests, sailors in dungarees with ballcaps and/or helmets, and CPO/Officers in wash khakis combo covers and/or helmets – armed with typical USN Vietnam weapons – M-14s, M-16s, 1911s, Thompsons?, etc. Of course being Sailors some of them should just be wearing trousers and boots like you see in so many Brown Water Navy photos. Any ideas?

Here is a video that gives the idea:

Thanks!

I was looking for images of the same types earlier today at lunchtime.

The closest I can think of would be some of the FOA ACAV crews or GI's in T-shirts (covered in equipment though) and a few odd figures from West Winds US platoon, support or Howitzer sets.

I ruled out my stock of Blue Moon and Sand Pepples sailors as they look too Navy for Vietnam.

I bought the Force of Force supplement Ambush Valley and so a picture of a Petty Officer in dungarees with a Beret and a Thompson – I was thinking about modifying on of my Sand Pebble Sailors for that look. The video I attached shows an interesting mix of sailors in utilities and dungarees with various headgear (berets, ballcaps, and Dixie cups) during the med-clinic in the ville.

That video was good.
There still seems to be a few gaps in 28mm ranges that could be filled by someone. I'm looking for more command figures for my VC.
I wonder if Grand Manner do separate figures for their Brown water Navy? I'm using my iPhone so can't really check right now.

Had a look at Grand Manner but they don't seem to sell any separate crewmen.

How about some Chindits with Thompsons with a head swap?

I also have a couple of Brigade Games merchant sailors which would work with a head swap.

Hi, Chindits are a good idea. I have also ordered some West Wind US Special Forces with Berets. I will look at the Brigade game sailors too.

I received the West Wind US Special Forces with Berets today. They will do the trick. They are wearing fatigues with most in berets and a couple in a bandana.

There are 12 minis in a package. Four are wearing packs and will allocated to the Green Berets – 1 has a pack and M-16, 1 has a pack and shotgun, 1 with radio and M-16, and 1 with sniper rifle.

The other 8 are not wearing packs and will do for Sailors. Of the 8, 1 has an M-60 and the other 7 carry M-16s. The fellows with M-16s are all wearing a LBE suspender with cartridge belt, canteens, and ammo pouches. So my question is did Brown Water Sailors wear the LBE with ammo pouches? If not, I can remove these and leave them on bare fatigues.

If you're a stickler, the berets were worn up on the right side along the French fashion.

Along the line of figures you might try armored vehicle crewman or even a conversion of the 1/48 flight deck figures from, is it Fujimi or Tamiya? I made helicopter door gunners from one of these sets.

Also in 1/48, the Monogram junk, Swift Boat, (sorry no mutinous crews against an officer destined for political office) and the RAG boat. Again, 1/48 but if they're staying on board or surrounded by 28mm Vietnamese, they might work.

Giving more thought to Brown Water Navy base figures, some WWII marines might work. Older weapons like you want. Battle Honours comes to mind.
