If you mean the symbol of the Democratic Party, it was never identified with Southern intransigence, and, in fact, under FDR and Truman the Democratic Party, was instrumental in rejecting Jim Crow and being part of the reforms to civil rights, driving many Southern Democrats into, at first,the Dixiecrat Party, and then into the Republican Party.

To be fair, the Republicans under TR, and Later Ike and Dirksen, also played a role in the demise of Jim Crow. However, the Republican Party never made as strong a distinction between their Northern and their new found Southern members as did the Dems. Deleted by Moderator

This, of course, has nothing to do with the offensive qualities of the Confederate battle flag, or Che, but is typical of TMP threads.

for the record, I would never say that Che t-shirts should be banned, despite having strong opinions such as the ones repiqueone holds for the confederate flag, I simply expressed my dissaproval …. It was a comment about a historical political figure and not a statement regarding current political action against any kind of iconography.
