I'm getting back into naval gaming after a long (20 years+ !) break. I was thinking about getting a couple of smaller navies – Greek and Turkish, or Argentina and Chile, but the ship listings don't cover these ships (yes, I know the Yavuz was the Goeben…).

Query is, does anyone have a formula for ships' DF for GQ1 and 2? The gun values are given, but the ships' DF, although usually around 1 point per 2000 tons, it isn't always. Is there a set formula out there?

Lots of GQ stuff and stats

Thanks. I've got some of the links, but for some reason my computer can't read the ship data pdf. No idea why not, the other files are fine.

As I see it, rules designers use their best judgement to calculate stats, with the emphasis on the word judgement. In the case of GQ-1 and GQ-2, he (as you say) obviously took the displacement and divided by 2000. He then apparently sometimes made minor adjustments up or down, to accommodate his historical perceptions.

The nice thing about it is that, since it's not a computer game, this all is out in the open, and you can make adjustments based on your own reading of history.

If you went to gq3 they have all the stats for the navies you are interested in.

Might want to check that you have the latest update on you pdf reader. Not sure if that'll do it, but it's worth a try.

I'm using Adobe XI reader, but still no joy.

FWIW, I can read it, using the Linux Mint version of Firefox. Maybe it's an issue with your browser plug-in, and you aren't even getting to use Adobe Reader. Try downloading the file first, then opening it with Reader.

For example, from the PDF:

Medjideh Training Ship:
DEFENCE FACTOR: 2+half
CLASSIFICATION: CL*
MAIN ARMAMENT: 5.1 in.
SECONDARY ARMAMENT: 3 in.
AF BOXES: 3/1 2/1 2/half 1/half
HULL BOXES: 7-5-3-2
AA STRENGTH: 1
SHIPS IN CLASS: (1)

As I said above, however, it's easy enough to make your own, assuming you have access to a reference book such as "Conways All The World's Fighting Ships". link link

Ta. I've got Conway's up to 1928, and the 1905 Jane's. Will try to download and open. Thanks for the tip.
