"Russia's latest naval attack helicopter just might be the most fearsome ever. Moscow means to deploy the navalized adaptation of the coaxial-rotor Kamov Ka-52 aboard the Russian navy's controversial, French-built amphibious assault ships.

Without doubt, the current gold standard for maritime attack helos is the U.S. Marine Corps' Bell AH-1Z Viper, the latest and most capable iteration of the classic HueyCobra—the pioneering gunship that first saw combat during the Vietnam War.

Distinguished from its predecessors chiefly by its four-blade main rotor, the Viper gained entered front-line service in February 2011…"

Going to be a little tough to deploy any helos if the French stop delivery of the Mistral-class…

The AH1Z is significantly lighter than the Ka52, about 30kph faster, and can apparently even carry a greater weapons load.

It's also possible to further up-engine the AH1Z to the tune of nearly 2400hp each (using T700-T6E instead of the installed -401C, and going from 3600 total hp to 4760 total hp!), which will really exacerbate the difference in performance. Might force a 5- or 6-bladed rotor if you do that, though.

If you took a step even further to the T706-GE-700, those are 2600hp each. I'm positive it would take a further redesigned rotor system to absorb that much power, but the Ka52 just can't keep up.

So no, the Ka52 is not particularly a rival to the AH1Z.
