ok, I'm in the process of painting up my 6mm acw for Altar of Freedom.
I have both the scenario books, and the free second Kernstown
what scenario do you think is the best for a first game, and why?

thanks in advance,
Joe

EDIT: I am unsure how many players there will be, I would like to try out the rules with just me and a opponent, but that may not be possible.

I think the best "starter" scenarios are on the smaller side, but not too small. First Manassas, for example, is such a small scenario that it's actually a bit tricky I think. To get a good flavor, you'd want a couple generals per side and not too many divisions to worry about.

In the East, I like Seven Pines and Drewry's Bluff. They don't require a large number of brigades and the forces are pretty evenly matched for either side to win.

In the West, Perryville and Shiloh are nice starter scenarios for the same reasons. Shiloh is also included in the main rules. When you're feeling slightly more ambitious and want to do a big, famous battle, Stones River is extremely manageable. Not a ton of troops, very clear command structures, and evenly balanced. It's one of my favorite scenarios to play. Any of the above scenarios could be done with 2 players. Most of them can take up to 4.
