I always thought that French battle falgs in AWI were very large, but once I've come across a picture showing it rather small. I've also found somwhere the dimesions of flag that survived and again – it was very small. Again, the details were lost over the time. Could someone help me in this matter ? |

According to 'Drapeaux Et Etandards Du Roi' by Charrie they started out in the 1700s quite large, but varied quite a bit. They became smaller over the years and by 1768 the following sizes are noted - Garde Francaise – 165 cm square. Royal Corse – 162 cm square. Garde Suisses – 178 cm square. Cliff |

That's still somewhere between 5 and 6 feet square – not small by any means. |

Gherardi claims that they were 130cm square in AWI. |
