Wow--the mass effect of all those small troops really gives teh effect of a massive battle. Did you use 6mm or 10mm figures?

williamb01 Sep 2014 1:31 p.m. PST

6mm. A mixture of Heroics and Ros, Irregular, Baccus, and Rapier. Phalanx and Romans are Rapier. Others a mix.

I would like to see your OOB for Asculum. I plan to do it as well as soon as I finish a couple more phalanxes. I will use "Lost Battles" as a primary source with approximately 15 units per side.

The order of battle for Asculum was derived from the sources mentioned in Lost Battles. The main difference between mine and the one in Lost Battles is the exchange of 2000 of the Italian infantry for a tenth 2000 man pike formation. This was based on the army Pyrrhus brought with him, less his loses at the previous battle. On the Roman side there are four legions, four allied formations and cavalry on both wings. The exact organization of the legions at this point is uncertain. It may have been the later 1200 velite, 1200 Hastatii, 1200 Princepes, and 600 Triarii, or it may have been the prior organization. The exact date of the change is unknown.

Bill
