Our first game today and the following arose;

shooting is resolved as per melee so we assumed that a 3 point difference in scores would produce a casualty. However the shooting factors do not +include the modifier for outnumbering so a unit of 8 elite bow blazed away most of the game at a unit of 4 bow at close range and only managed 1 hit over 9 rounds. Is firing meant to be this ineffective (as the Egyptian Elite archers are point expensive presumably not)then what have we done wrong? REgards ALan

May be. What's OGAM?

Front page shows "Medieval Discussion", cross-posting just doesn't work for TMP many redundant boards.

Here is my advise – change dice. I played Songs of Blades and Heroes, not OGAM. Rolling bad doesn't mean that game don't work.

Interesting. I don't know exactly as our OGAM games haven't used much ranged fire. If you don't get a satisfactory answer here, I'd recommend posting on the Song of Blades yahoo group. Andrea personally answers questions about all his rules there.

I'd be curious to know the answer myself, because I've been thnking about building an elf army for OGAM (using the celt list probably) and ranged fire would definitely figure in that force.

Aln
firing by mortals is deliberately ineffective but fire by gods shine. Try a game against Artemis and you'll see.

Take Aimed Shots for +1 when you can, try to stay in optimal range to avoid negative modifiers, and remember that on a tied roll you still inflict a casualty, just as in melee (you just don't suffer one yourself).

Also, Shooting a target that has been "Transfixed" puts lowly Mortals on a par with their God's attacks, making – for example – Egyptian Elite Archers serving under Set especially effective.
