Here is another easy bash to show you all, I have collected six of these old Matchbox Commando toys from E-Bay for no more than £2.00 GBP each, I popped off the axle, wheels and plastic turret before stripping all the paint off of them then replaced the old toy turret for this CMG one instead which just so happened to be a perfect fit and then puttied in the open void that I assume is meant to be the hatch opening at the front. Lastly I'm going to add a small amount of Brigade models new stowage items and a couple of old matching wheels mounted on the rear of a couple of them. I think that you will agree a simply but visually pleasing toy conversion. Thanks Zac

Very nice start, hope you post pictures when your finish.

You are such a stud Zac. :-)
They are looking good. With other turret replacements you can have all sorts of funness with these conversions.

And it is never the £2.00 GBP that gets you. It is the individual shipping you have to slog through unless you got em as one big lot. :-)

I had no idea how successful in the real world the Commando series where, they are still being produced for all manor of duties with different turret variants, and i thought i was going to have a hard time of it explaining why my force was useing such old equipment hence i gave them the remote turret upgrade. I must confess i did buy three of them in a single auction lot which i guess did save me a few pound on their postage…

@grimmnar, no kidding, sometimes it feels like you're paying to have an actual vehicle shipped…

Anyway these are perfect – ideal scale and with a few adjustments they look sufficiently high tech to be "futuristic". Whatever that means.

Those look great. How did you strip them?

I wonder, how do those compare in size to the Rebel Minis MRAPs? I'd like an open turret on top!

I have used a very strong varnish/paint remover called Nitromores over here in the UK for many years, it removes multiple layers of old stubborn paint like a hot knife cutting through butter. It's industrial strength stuff and i highly recommend that you wear rubber gloves and also use a glass jar to strip anything in. After the paint comes off which only takes about 5-8 minuites make sure to rinse your metal item under cold water for a few seconds, Nitromores melts plastics and resins so please take this into consideration before you start stripping your miniatures…

Used to use nitromorse before I discovered Dettol, not only does it strip metal, but plastic and resin.Leave mini submerged for a couple of days, take out and dry, then brush dry paint residue off with minimum effort, never attempt removing the paint that is left on the mini while it is wet as it just smears.Sieve the Dettol and its ready to reuse again and again, its a disinfectant detergent so doesn't stink the house out and fine on your hands, nitromorse does work but its highly toxic and only works on metal, try Dettol, under £4.00 GBP in asda/Tesco for 750ml, make sure you get the original orange version, not the useless copies in different colours.
