I finished one of the two Albatros I have been building, there are more pictures on my blog:

Looks good to me. Some of those Germans sure were flamboyant. Colorful, too.

Nice, clean look.

I always wanted WWI aero-color schemes to carry though into the Jet Age.

The Albatross may not have been the best plane of the war, but she sure was pretty.

Abwehrschlacht30 Aug 2014 7:09 a.m. PST

Thanks chaps, it was a Bleeped text to build so I'm glad it's done. Only one more to go and Rrobby the next one is even more flamboyant!

What scale? Who makes the kit?

Mollinary30 Aug 2014 8:13 a.m. PST

His blog contains an earlier post on WIP which identifies them as by "Eduard" in 1/72nd scale.

This lovely model also illustrates that newer kits tend to not have a pilot figure (apologies if this does and it was a choice.) I don't know how large a market it might be, but the minis sculptors out there might be able to add some income with an easily cast original (most of the body is hidden inside the tight cockpit.)

In 1:144 scale Peter Pig already produce pilot figures, and British and German rear gunner figures. Don't know of anyone doing it in any other scale though.

I got a 1:72 Preiser 1920s aviation figure set several years ago that looked likely to fill in a few gaps, but I'm getting to the point of selling rather than building and playing.

Beautiful!

Abwehrschlacht30 Aug 2014 10:39 a.m. PST

Thanks guys. Bill, it's an Eduard 1/72nd scale kit, as someone else pointed out. They are really nice kits, and have a lot of photoetched parts, for example, the seatbelts. I left some off as my skills were not up to the full challenge of them!

I think Revisesco also do pilots and observors in 1/144th, but I am not sure who else (besides PP). This kit didn't come with any pilot figures.

Any pilot figure should include a long wavy scarf.

Abwehrschlacht31 Aug 2014 3:16 a.m. PST

Some of the Peter Pig ones do…

Swampster31 Aug 2014 7:04 a.m. PST

Orion do a set of pilots for WW1 in 1/72. They represent various different nationalities. IIRC, some have wavy scarves :)

I must get around to using mine sometime.
