New to this brilliant site and hope for your help. I have decided to build a CotR army as an independent army made up from regiments, battalions from the different kingdoms, duchies etc. My question is who do you guys think would be the natural commander for such an army, may be Wrede.

Napoleon was not too enthused with corps commanders unless they were French. You might get by using Jerome as King of Westphalia, as he commanded VIII Corps in Russia.

My suggestion would by Reynier, who commanded the Saxons in Russia.

Von Hesse is correct, Napoleon used French Officers to command Confed of the Rhine contingents at Corps level.

Vandamme did a great job with the Wurttemburgers in 1809. Lefebvre commanded the Bavarians, Bernadotte the Saxons, Jerome the Westphalians. The smaller contingents, sub Corp level in size, like the Badeners and Hessians were combined with French formations.

Von Wrede was only given a Corps command shortly before the 1812 campaign. So that and the fact he had Bavarian political interests to worry about probably makes him unsuitable.

You might consider 'promoting' one of the lower level officers or inserting one of the above-mentioned suggestions.

Wrede commanded in 1813 – it is strange that Napoléon did give an army corps to Jerome but would refuse die hard professionels like Deroy, or Wrede the honor, on the premise that they were non French.

Thanks guys, appreciate the replies. Really looking at an army that would be independent, a what if type army where they went into the field like Prussian, Russian even british with there own leaders. I would field this army against all comers.

Dear Meuzieu
Well the Prussians, Russians and British were commanded in 1813 by non-nationals. The Netherland expedition had some British units under Prussian command. In 1815, the British siege train was under the command of the Prussians.

Prussians, Russians and Austrians were under different commands.

Make your General up, use something like the Sharps Practise rules profile generator from 2FL and then generate a name via the net much more fun.
Cheers
