While on a trip to the Dollar Tree store I noticed these microphone shaped bubble-wands in the toy aisle. I thought the tops had good possibility to be converted into some sort of sci-fi building for my upcoming 10mm sci-fi project. Perhaps storage tanks, or a communications center of some kind.

And this is the result:

Brilliant.

Thanks for the kind remarks!

No, I have no plans for the tubes. They just didn't inspire me to anything. I guess some sort of tower…? Part of the problem is that all the "made by…", "distributed by…", and "Patent number" info is embossed on the outside of the length of the tubes, so it would need to be filed off if I was to use them.

Anyone have an idea of what they could be? I'm open to inspiration. :) The recycling goes out next Monday.

Very cool! I love "found" terrain.

The tubes could be cyrogenic tubes. Leaving the embossed patent numbers on would give it an industrial look to it.

The tops would work in the smaller scales too, I see some giant monster gaming uses out of them!

Those came out really well. Since following the 15mm goings-on here, and on the facebook group, I've made visiting the toy aisles in Wal Mart a regular thing.

I could see those working with 15mm as well. Maybe as additions to a larger building. Off to the Dollar Store!

nice buildings

Or covered over. I usually use duct tape, foam or random bits to cover such things.

Thanks for the continued positive comments and ideas!

Yes, these would work great for everything from 2mm up to 15mm. I suppose even 28mm as smaller portable units.

Went to two dollar stores yesterday to see if these were available, with no joy. I swear I've seen them repeatedly for years, up until I go looking for them.

Did find some popsicle moulds though that will make good buildings or dropship doodads, and some storage tray thingys (sort of like candy trays) in a couple of sizes that will make good small scale sci-fi/fantasy buildings, sort of pyramidal in shape. And being cheap products, no inconvenient embossed writing on them, not even "Made in China"!
