I lack any decent photography skill so forgive the quality

I assume this is from Shapeways and will see use with X-Wing? I've looked at something from them that looked to be about the same design.

Then it was probably mine

Thank you.
I freely admit to the obvious inspirations *L*
Im working on sorting them but the Shapeways process of organization is time confusing.
As for scale. Many of the designs were requests to be made at specific sizes so the scale was unknown to me. And others were made for specific games that our group were playing like the Yamato style ships and they were just designed to be a compromise between affordability and size and not originally intended for sale. Again im working through the models trying to sort them but there are as you noticed a lot of them *L*

..but the Shapeways process of organization is time confusing.

Was that an intentional malapropism? Brilliant if so, VERY telling if not. ;->=

Always feels as if something thrown together for a bunch of people to put up a few designs. An actually manageable store seems to not quite be achieved.

Of course, throw in those of us who've been less than pleased some of the output, and you're facing a pretty high bar.

That said, work like yours makes resistance, if not futile, down right painful.

Thank you.
To me it is a stepping stone until i can get my own high quality printer.
I suspect they may have underestimated the demand when they started the company. As for the quality it can take a while to learn the tricks but with practice there are ways to limit or even eliminate the things like stepping lines that can result from bad print orientation etc. And of course the material choice makes a big difference Getting a fighter in anything less than Frosted Detail for instance is a recipe for disaster.

Fnnily enough i just strted building those models. As for making my own i can see about doing them in a smaller scale. When i made the Yamato style ships it was for a different game in an alternate story minus the Yamato so the ships were designed to be in the style but not official.
The closest one i have is my upgraded version

and it is almost 5 inches. But my friend who made several of the other ships for the game has a really nice and accurate one. I can ask him if he will resize it.
As for the Yukikaze ours is slightly over 2 inches. The fins on the rear section were just too thin to print in a smaller size. But give me some time an i will see if i can make it work.

Thnks for the organization tip. Im deleting some of my old models that were from when i had just started and will redo the shop when that is done

Disco Joe31 Aug 2014 3:30 p.m. PST

Seems a tad expensive.

Einar Gosric01 Sep 2014 2:06 a.m. PST

That is the problem with getting shapeways stuff in the good materials. The models look infinitely better but are a lot more expensive. My markup on the ones i sell is negligible. The listed cost is 90 percent shapeways base cost

MacrossMartin06 Sep 2014 7:58 p.m. PST

Excellent work, Gosric!

Pardon the hint – any thought of doing a Starfury (Babylon 5) in 1/270?

My own efforts to sculpt one in Art of Illusion are proving… amateurish…

Einar Gosric06 Sep 2014 11:53 p.m. PST

I never could get the hand of that program. As for the Starfury I wasn't planning on it. I made a Gerry Anderson Starfury as a bit of a joke (in joke i guess) but haven't tackled the proper one. I dont really see why i couldnt though except for licensing reasons (there is a reason i tend to make original designs or the more obscure)
But if that isnt an issue it wouldn't be a problem. Im always looking for something new to do.
Definitely something for detail material though with the delicate parts

MacrossMartin07 Sep 2014 12:01 a.m. PST

In all honesty, I hope you do give it a go. The one I'm building looks like a Starfury (so far) but it is an uphill struggle!

I've filled in the 'fuel cells' gaps in the upper wing on mine. (In the render above, they show up as the white spaces in the front and back views) As there seems to be a lot of doubt regarding their accuracy. (Also, I intended to cast mine in resin, so filling spaces makes it a lot easier.)

As far as doing original or more obscure designs, how about something based on this 'first pass' drawing by the 'fury's designer, Steve Burg?

I like the first prototype. something about it has always appealed to me

Einar Gosric08 Sep 2014 8:14 p.m. PST

Resizing isnt the problem, the computer model could be shrunk down to .5 inch if need be (though why i couldnt say) Durability and printability are the limiting factors.
The sturdier material has a 1mm tolerance which is ok, but not great for small ships and doesnt have the best appearance.
The detail materials, while much more suited for fine work, are less strong which can be an issue with the kind of long fins Yamato style ships tend to have.
I did resize my Dresden class pre wave motion battlecruiser to 1.75inches so it is certainly feasible.

shpws.me/peu6

will see what i can do about resizing them and let you know as soon as possible

Einar Gosric10 Sep 2014 8:19 p.m. PST

I will keep you informed

Einar Gosric21 Sep 2014 10:07 p.m. PST

The Dresden is available. It was the first of my small versions. Frosted ultra is the best material for detail but i would probably say frosted detail as the spindly fins would be extremely fragile in ultra

Einar Gosric28 Sep 2014 1:59 p.m. PST

And the painted Gunship since that was the original purpose of the thread *L*

I hope you start to include "White Strong & Flexible Polished" to most of your ships. I would be interested in purchasing a couple but that option isn't available. I prefer polished because of the smoother edges, it takes to painting much better than the grainy ones without being polished.

Einar Gosric03 Oct 2014 10:56 p.m. PST

I havent included it on many of the models because of the loss of detail that results or because a model has protrusions that will be broken or ground down during the process. If you let me know what models you mean i can see if they are feasible.
