I am about to launch into 15mm fantasy for the first time. I have a dwarf army I got from a friend. Another friend is painting up Black Raven Foundry Orcs. I want to do an Elf Army.

So here's the question, The Dwarf Army is also Black Raven Foundry. They are hefty dwarves. Very tall. Who makes 15mm Elves that won't be smaller than the dwarves? I like the look of Demonworld and Splintered Light Wood elves, but they both look a little small to me.

What Elves are not Dwarfed by the BRF Dwarves?

Thanks, Xin

I have some Rebel Minis wild elves, and they are pretty chunky.

Oh and Eureka should be big enough.

Dammit, somebody had some nicely painted examples on here, and now I can't find them.

I would second Black Raven's High Elves as well.

Well I'm at work at the moment, but I seem to remember some loose High Elves rattling around the box when I got the Dwarves were giving to me. They seem on the small side.

Anyone have pics of BRF Dwarves and elves together? Also I forgot to mention, I was leaning towards Wood Elves, but I'm not married to it.

Again, thanks for any help, Xin

I'm guessing at Splintered light from the figs I have- an e-mail will get a result.

I second Eureka 'Elves of the Lofty Spire', they are tall and would fit in well with BRF – long cloaks and plate armor give them a deadly elegance!

Eureka has wood elves too, though I don't have any. I understand from TMP that they may be overkill – closer to 20mm scale.

There are also the Elves in the Demonworld line at RPE.

The BRF Dwarves are more like 20mm, they are huge. I would go with the Splintered Light Elves, they are the nicest ones around.

I really like the Chariot Miniatures ones, available from magistermilitum.com. Nice range of alternatives between the High Elf and Wood Elf aesthetics.

Landorl25 Aug 2014 10:24 a.m. PST

Splintered Light, and Demonworld won't work very well with BRF dwarves. They are the same height as the dwarves!

Eureka's wood elves are tall, as are BRF's. I know Alternative Armies dwarves are also tall, but I haven't had any of their elves to see if the same were true.

On my blog there are a few comparison shots. For BRF all I have is the human rangers and some orcs.

Landorl is correct. BRF are pretty big for Dwarves. SLM Elves are wonderful figures. They just won't look right against the large BRF figures. The BRF are an odd size. Not quite 20mm (1/72 scale) and definitely bigger than modern 15mm. The Blood Dawn (ex Reaper) are quite large and fit 20mm figures nicely. They actually work with some of the SLM Dwarves which are also quite large…depending on the range.

I'd stick with the BRF Elves and maybe check out the elves from 15mm.co.uk. These figures also tend to be on the large size. Eureka would be another excellent choice for the same reasons.

A question to consider and one largely based on personal taste (I am pretty liberal when it comes to using different sized figures)--as long as size is consistent within a unit or army, how much does one army vs another matter?

I have all of the different manufacturers mixed all together in armies but just keep them in separate armies or units. My main criteria is what I like.

15mm.co.uk elves are pretty tall (I only have the mounted knight figures, so not sure if the foot figures are close in size or not). I just finished my elven army using a combination of 15mm.co stuff for my "high elves" (with one unit of Black Raven Foundry -- they are really tall, so they are my version of elven grenadiers) and Splintered Light for wood elves. The SL minis are much smaller and more lithe, but are great figs. I painted the SL figs in a woodland color scheme and my high elves in a sky blue and white scheme to give them a different look. On the table, they work fine in my eyes.

The 15mm.co.uk elves are pretty tall and quite nice.

Here's a useful comparison article with BRF, Eureka and Tin Soldier. link

For my 15mm/18mm fantasy collection i started with Blood dawn (Magister Militum) dwarves which are definatly 18mm scale and and are wonderful figures but cannot be put near 15mm scale men or elves.
All the Eureka 18mm figures fit perfectly with Blood Dawn and Copplestone's barbarians as well.
I have no BRF (yet) but i have heard they are the same size as Blood dawn.
Few pics of the collection here:-

Nearly forgot, the Demonworld elves are roughly 16mm scale, but the hero/character models are bigger and fit with my Euecka elves perfectly.

Peter Pig do a good range of Elves but they are deffinately 15mm

kenohhkc02 Oct 2014 5:26 a.m. PST

I think the best Elves in 15mm are Demonworld elves hands down. They were sculpted like 28mm figs at the time. Classic, amazing figures that get way to little run for Wood Elves, High Elves, Dark Elves, you name it. They fit well with Copplestone's 15mm as well.

I love Splintered Light Orcs and all of Copplestone's stuff is brilliant, but if you want GW styled 15mm fantasy, Demonworld is the way to go.
