I'm looking for good reference pics to paint off of. I'm painting up the Artizan Earps and Doc Holiday I want to have kind of a Tombstone look. Any good pics from the movie or your own miniatures are much appreciated. Thanks! |

A Google search for keywords "doc holiday earp movie" then clicking Images will bring back a lot of pictures, many from the various movies, some apparently historical. |

Ah, a favorite subject. I've read numerous accounts of the gunfight, including Wyatt's on version, and it seems all were dressed in black suits, which is pretty typical for townsfolk and for a marshal or sheriff, when not on the trail. There is little description beyond that except that Doc Holiday is described as wearing in addition, a gray overcoat. There is no description of what shade of gray, so I did mine in a medium darkish gray, and would recommend adding the upper and rear of the collar in black as that was a common characteristic of the time … and still. Here is a picture of my Blue Moon 18 MM Earp posse if that helps.
In addition to reading on the famous gunfight, I studied all of the pictures and photos I could find, and also used the movies Tombstone and Wyatt Earp as guides. So my Earps are taken a bit from all the sources I could find and the Wyatt Earp movie – Wyatt has dark black-brown trousers, and Morgan has dark black-gray trousers with a medium gray hat. I also added Doc's silver headed cane to Virgil's hand. When I do the "Cowboys" I'll use Tombstone for my primary guide as I like the colorful dress they wore – but will not do the sashes, as they were added to the movie solely to help the audience recognize who the bad guys were. Hope this helps and be sure to share some pictures when you get them painted up. Terry |

Oh, forgot to mention that the Earps were all blondes and Doc had reddish blonde hair, so be sure and consider that. Terry |

Back in the day when I worked for a costumier, I was informed that the animosity was caused by one side hailing from The Black Country and the other from Birmingham in the UK. The same expert made a mint when he found an original tomohawk in a carboot in florida, the locals taken the Birmingham (UK)foundry mark as indicative of a forgery. |

If you own a copy of Tombstone, you can make screen captures using your computer. While playing the disc, you can take screenshots of the movie. Check the help file for the program playing the disc to find out which keys to use. I've done this using the movies in my Western movie library to amass a huge reference library of costumes, buildings and even horse colors. |

You can also get lots of pictures from Google pictures, using "Earps Tombstone Movie" as the search, and see lots of good info on YouTube asking for clips from the movie. Terry |

To further muddle things, some of the eyewitness accounts have all three Earps wearing "blanket" coats, rather than the back dusters. It was actually pretty cold in Arizona that October, there was snow on the ground. |

You can see our first game here. If it takes you to the beginning go to page 3 for the report and pictures. I was playing the Ghost of Frank McLaury as he was the only bad guy I had finished, and I was on the bad side. link Terry |
