I'm closing in on the troops I need to finish for a gig at the Wargames Holiday Centre on 30th/31st August, and for our big Pydna game at Partizan on 7th September. These are the hastati for my allied legion, and a general.

Amazing work. The shields are excellent.

Lovely work, Simon.

Wonderful basing too, as usual.

Do the hastati represent two complete maniples? And may I ask how deep your bases are (the width is 60mm, I guess)?

I must say Simon your work is always stellar. I wish I lived in your neck of the woods so I could break out my ancients, right now they aren't all that popular in Las Vegas. But ancients are what started me on the path.

Thanks chaps!

Acrylic Nick, each "unit" represents half the hastati of a legion, and yes they are on a 6cm square base. When deployed the legion will cover a frontage of 40cm, and include approximately 100 minis.

I have almost finished 2 legions, and hope to eventually raise 4. We are going to have 800 Aventine legionaries in our game at Partizan on 7th September, assembled from 4 collections.

Amazing figures and painting!!
I like the animated poses. I wish my stuff was half as good.

Thanks chaps!

Yes Greg, these Aventines are very animated. I wasn't sure about the animation, at first, but I have come to prefer them to the static poses.

I'm just starting to base their Roman opposite numbers, and then my work will be done… for the time being.

Cheers Simon

PS Hi Mike!

They do come up well – have done 24 (only) so far as Etruscans. Mix in well with Gorgons.
