Wonderful stuff! Never thought I was going to find a VSS in 15mm. Ironically enough considering the obvious reference being made, I will almost certainly be using these as Ukrainian troops for the Operation Greenway and the Battle of Pripyat.

Yay!

What's VSS?

Soldado21 Aug 2014 6:03 a.m. PST

Cyclopeus, VSS is a kind of sniper rifle, its the figure 2nd from left in the pic above and 2nd from right in the linked pic.

VSS 'Vintorez' silenced sniper rifle (USSR/Russia),

Designed at TSNIITochMash(Central Institute for Precision Machine Building) by team lead by PetrSerdjukov, the new rifle was intended to replace some AK-47/AKM rifles, fitted with silencers, in the hands of various Special Operations (SpetsNaz) troops of Soviet Army, KGB and MVD.

Doesn't that rather give them away as Russian special forces? :-)

Mr Putin said they aren't any Russian forces there, so they are not. You should believe him ;)

It's well known that Ukrainians hunt with the Vintorez, so as not to disturb the other animals. Given this fact, why should pro-Russian patriots, who were just humble hunters, not have quite a few of these not so special weapons.

It's also a little known fact that Ukrainian wildlife is some of the most vicious in Europe, so these same humble hunters regularly have to don body armour, helmets and protective goggles.

Videos as well.

Note how quiet it is in the open…..

Useful because, the firer in the background with an unsuppressed weapon contrasts well with the VSS….

Different weapon, but same cartridge. Only in Russia…

YouTube link

The weapon was developed as a subsonic anti-body armor system. There are ball and AP rounds. Several weapons use the cartridge.
