"The U.N. secretary-general says two United Nations peacekeepers have been killed and seven wounded in a suicide attack in Mali. Ban Ki-moon said he was saddened by the deaths and condemned the attack against U.N. personnel in a statement issued Saturday. The U.N. mission in Mali had earlier reported one peacekeeper dead and five injured…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Sorry to hear of the deaths … but I'm glad the UN is stepping up to the plate … Some have said, they think the UN should send troops to Iraq as well … But that may cause more trouble than it is worth …Of course for gaming purposes it may have some merit. Think of all the UN forces(Turks, Paks, etc.) that could fight ISIS along with the Kurds and US CAS … |

Don't see in the forum many "UN" wargames. Don't know why. Amicalement Armand |

Probably because the UN's rules of engagement mean Peacekeepers usually aren't going to be doing much fighting. Though, now that I think about it, a set of Peacekeeper scenarios would actually be kind cool: your troops have limited resources, strange rules of engagement, and a convoluted command structure, but they are the only thing standing between tens of thousands of people and certain death. Scenarios could include guarding refugee camps and evacuation zones, escorting civilians (refugees, aid workers, and aid supplies), and urban combat operations where the goal is to absolutely limit collateral damage (with the twist being NPC civilians on the map whose actions are handled by an in-scenario "AI"). Or maybe future scenarios where Global Warming's kicked in full bore and the UN is the only thing stopping all-out wars between nations over water and arable land. |

Peacekeeping doesn't get much gaming time because trying to avoid gun battles with local factions is not as sexy as tanks crashing through houses. Totally with Richard though: With some thought, you could make a kick *** game about it, though it might lend itself better to a campaign with a GM. |
