I was assembling my new ship dials today and noticed that the underside of the upper ring appears to have a slick coating of some sort on it. If so, it appears to be a response to complaints about early dials wearing off the printed maneuvers on the lower ring. Has anyone else noticed a difference? Might be a bit early to know if this will be a solution, but if so, kudos would be due to FFG for handing the problem directly, and with no change in price.

My wave four dials don't have a coating.

I'll check when I get home, but I don't recall noticing anything different.

Coating the Underside of the upper dial still doesn't fix the problem!

You need to coat the PRINTED SURFACE!

If the printed surface is still exposed, it just means the upper dial coated surface is still going to rub on the printed maneuvers surface and wear them away in time… :-(

A buddy of mine assembles his dials with a nylon washer between the two discs. Keeps them from rubbing together. Wish I'd thought of that.

I use clear (not gloss) contact paper on the printed numbers and a nylon washer (helps the dial spin easier): link

When my dials wear out, I will remount my x-wing ships and use them for a new game… I figure by then I ought to be ready for a change…
