This is the second skirmish game in a comic style. The first used NUTS!, this one uses a modified version using only 1d6 for tests and also attempting to speed up the game. It follows a 8 man patrol in late June 1994 in Normandy. The entire comic is at this blog post: link There is also some commentary on the game and the end. Here is page 4 of the 6 pages:

Nicely tightly photographed, , makes it feel like the troops have plenty of room to roam around in. I was in my local high street newsagent chain the other day and noticed that they had the recently re-released Commando comics, a happy nostalgic moment for me, yours is even better – being in colour. |

Corporal Airfix! Well done – great AAR |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 6:09 a.m. PST |
Thanks Norm. For my old AArs, I could line up a photo shoot as I was going and would use most of the photos in the AAR. For the comics, I must take about 100 and then sort out which ones to use (maybe a third make it). And you are right, i did not notice it but it does not really look like 20mm on a 2'x2' table – i must be doing something right! Yes, and the other NCO is Box. I haven't released his nickname, but if I need it, it is "Match". Although his figure is not from that company for this game but it was in the first game I played (he swapped weapons from a Rifle to a Sten). |

So "Airfix" is a Matchbox Bren gunner and Jonesy is from the Airfix Infantry Combat Group first seen in 1960(my first British infantry that I bought in '62.) |

I love it Shaun…those British Airfix bring back memories I'll tell ye :) Thanks for posting Shaun |

Great stuff Shaun, I really love the comic-book stuff you and Panda are doing, wish I had the time and patience. The figs really look great; I've had a real problem trying to get good pics of my 10mm stuff doing skirmish gaming, it's just so damned small! Or my camera really sucks… Hold your horses Blue, I said I'll get some gaming in, so I'll get some gaming in ;) But there's plenty left, Shaun's got another 5 or 6 he still needs to write up ;) V/R, Jack |

Oh my…Just jack needs to hurry up and post soon…
Blue is referring to the competition of who can post the most AAR's but I think Shaun has it in the bag…especially with 5 and 6 coming to a TMP screen near you soon Looking at your Airfix makes me want to get some again, they have so much character! I love the background images you have too gives the AAR a real comic book look… When are the others coming Shaun? |
Duc de Limbourg | 15 Aug 2014 1:22 p.m. PST |
a great way of presenting an AAR, love it thanks |
War Panda | 15 Aug 2014 1:47 p.m. PST |
But the hills looked good… Now thats a clear shot across Captain Jack's bow …you sir are a war mongerer |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 3:55 p.m. PST |
Bluer, Jack makes his own "hills" too. for Vietnam, it makes it easy to do any carpet bombing that is required (yes, I have been saving that joke up for the last couple of weeks). Bluer, For Warhammer quest (the next AAR) I use the figures from the box that are unpainted GW plastics. genew49, 4 of the figures would date from around 1982, I think that is when I painted them. But the other 4 are figures I got from ebay about 5 years ago and have no idea on there age. The Sten and Bren gunner are definitely mine from 1982. I like the Airfix/Matchbox figures as that is what I have! War Panda, the others are coming. I am thinking of waiting until you post one before I post any more…but then I did not want to make my AARs into a Christmas present :-) For this AAR, I used a lot of light on the table (I was playing at night) that really helped. And using my wife's Canno EOS 450D as my go-to camera for all my gaming helps as well. I think I use it more that her! I also am getting faster at how to put a comic together and this one was nearly as fast as an AAR with pictures and text. Not sure how suitable comics would be for other types of AARs but it fits skirmish gaming like a glove. |

That joke doesn't deserve the light of day…I'm sweeping it under the carpet <Groan> Sorry…. |
War Panda | 15 Aug 2014 5:29 p.m. PST |
BTW Shaun; nice use of animal "ghosts" or blinds although Jack will be disappointed in the lack of goat ghosts |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 6:09 p.m. PST |
Are you ready? …. I wonder if Jack's hills are actually representing rug-ged terrain? |
War Panda | 15 Aug 2014 6:43 p.m. PST |
LoL ….These are gold Shaun pure gold…I'm beginning to think we're going to be best friends… What do Mexican troops shout when they're charging down Jack's hills : Underlay Underlay! |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 7:49 p.m. PST |
I am out. I have nothing else! |
Weasel | 15 Aug 2014 8:07 p.m. PST |
At the risk of being the serious one, those comic book batreps look amazing :) Can I bribe one of you people to do a Five Men one for me, to use as some advertisement? I'll send you goat pictures or carpet |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 8:23 p.m. PST |
Ivan, You are back so soon! I can do one with 5MiN. I have a 5MiN QRS I did after all, and need to put it to some use. I need to play the game first but it is wet in Brisbane today and may even have time over the next few days. I think the bribe of no goats or carpet would be a better incentive… Note it would be on a 2'x2' table with 20mm figs, as per my other two comic AARs. |
War Panda | 15 Aug 2014 8:47 p.m. PST |
Oh no….Glad your out Ivan…I'll hide the goats… LoL…..have you guys got your own secret stash :D @Weasel Welcome back Ivan! I intended to do one soon my friend…so one should be ready early in the new year i.e. don't hold your breath :) But don't worry the promise of goat pictures has several of these guys scrambling for their …cough…minis …..ahem |
Just Jack | 15 Aug 2014 9:12 p.m. PST |
Carpet bombing? Really? You bastards are going to pay for this. Don't forget Shaun, you're up first on the firing line, seeing as you were unable to secure your objective last game. It seems the Sergeant Major may have himself a little accident. That was magic about the batrep Christmas presents though ;) And Ivan, I believe your comment about goats is a personal attack on Panda's preferences, and about carpet is harassment towards me, so, you've been reported and I expect to see you returned to the Dawghouse, immediately! ;) V/R, Jack |

Per the Airfix Tribute Forum the Infantry Combat Group were produced from 1960-1972."Jonesy" would be the last figure on the right in the box window. link Mine fought many a battle against these guys: link |
Shaun Travers | 15 Aug 2014 10:14 p.m. PST |
genew49: Thanks for the link! I actually had the type 5 box, and also a later box. I have never seen the German box you posted, only the later ones. I will be perusing that forum a little methinks. |
Weasel | 15 Aug 2014 10:26 p.m. PST |
Well, it was pretty comfy in there :D Once you get used to the rats, but they ain't so bad. They remind me a bit of Americans actually. |
War Panda | 15 Aug 2014 11:24 p.m. PST |
@genew49 What a great site…my heart actually aches with nostalgia looking at some of the pics Once you get used to the rats, but they ain't so bad. They remind me a bit of Americans actually. The Americans are like rats ahem…someones looking to go back to the doggy housey again ;) But honestly Ivan not all Americans are like Jack…take Blue for instance: he's an American and…oh I see what you mean…okay as you were men…as you were… |
