I just got my copy of the Black Powder supplement "Rebellion."

I have read through the introduction and the various notes on the battles and armies during the war. I think the book is well thought out. It has a high level overview of the time line of the war which is great for someone who is just getting into the period. Those who have a collection of books and research knowledge behind them should still find the book useful. One of the useful things I found was the chart of every British unit that fought in the war and where they fought. The chart also lists the regiments colors. These charts are also there for all of the other combatants involved.

The other thing that I found really nice was that this book has a lot of scenarios of various size battles. Well thought out with the average game table size being between 4 x 6 and 8 x 6 feet. I like the author's thoughts on why he chose the stats for the units and how this supplement will use the various special abilities a unit can have from the core Black Powder Rules.

To my knowledge, this supplement is the first book to not be in hard back. I was a bit disappointed at that given the price, but the book is well made.

I think that, even if you don't play Black Powder, this supplement is well worth the price. The book is laid out well with information on the battles and the armies involved. The numerous scenarios with orders of battle and table set up information fill up half of this book. The way the scenarios are laid out, a person would have no trouble converting them to the rules a person favors.

What battles are covered?

Caesar14 Aug 2014 6:30 a.m. PST

The rule books are hardcover, the supplements are softcover.

John, I don't have the book here at work, but I will list them all as soon as I get home. Off the top of my head I recall the map showing the battle locations to be all along the colonies. I remember Bunker Hill, Princeton, cow pens. I will get you the list later today.

@Caesar – I did not know that. I had thought pike and shotte was a supplement and not a full rules set, which is why I made the comment. It still is a nice supplement.

Pike and Shotte is it's own set of stand alone rules. The only one without any supplements so far.
The BP supplements are "Last Argument of Kings" (tricorne era), and "Perfidious Albion vol 1" (Peninsula) "Perfidious Albion vol 2" (100 Days) and "Zulu!". They are all soft cover.

Okay, good to know about the hard bound vs softbound.

I don't have my copy yet, but on a previous post the author said it had these scenarios:

Bunker/Breed's Hill
Chatterton's Hill
Princeton
Hubbardton
Bennington
Brandywine
Germantown
Bemis Heights
Monmouth Courthouse
Newport (historical and what-if with French involvement)
Briar Creek
Hanging Rock
Camden
Cowpens
Weitzell's Mill
Guilford Courthouse
Spencer's Ordinary
Eutaw Springs
Gloucester Point

Thanks Ed. If there are any scenarios missing from your list, I will add them.

But look at the size of the list. If I played every one back to back, it would be about two years of gaming. :-). Yes, sad that it should take so long, but at least I get to play some times.

I am looking forward to picking this one up.

I was just thinking that it has been a long time since I picked up a rules supplement and felt that it was really useful and a good value.

Waiting for my copy. This book is right on time for my AWI stuff I'm working on.

I don't play BP, but I'm still glad I got this book it's quite generic in its outlook in my opinion.

I only had time for a quick check, but I think the last Ed posted on the scenarios is not missing any. Seriously, the last half of the book is just scenarios.

Interesting they skipped the battles of Saratoga and included Bennington. The Saratoga battles were much more appropriate size wise to Black Powder than Bennington.

Also on the Bunker Hill scenario the bunker is the back edge of the table and the fletches are all wrong.

Bemis Heights is in the list and I think Freeman's farm is in the original Blackpowder.

I like it. Good scenarios. plenty of eye candy. Recommended.

I thought it was excellent….good background for those new to the period lots of info on uniforms and tactics and the large number of scenarios is a bonus

Chatterton's Hill AKA White Plains

I have beefs with the Freeman's Farm scenario in the rules – in the actual battle the Yanks outnumbered the Brits.
