It's always fun to get new resources!! Maybe this will be the place where the Romans stole the Alexander "Issos" mosaic from!!

Didn't they dig up Dad a few years ago?

Something I hope they find is the Cliff's Notes annotated Iliad that Aristotle made up for Alex. With a dedication and autograph: "To my little buddy Alex, from Ari"
His body? Meh. It probably has cooties.

I hope we will see an article on the grave goods and any mosaics found in the future.

Apparently it is the largest tomb of its kind. There's a possibility that it is the tomb prepared to receive Alexander's body, which of course was seized by Ptolemy.

Details will be slow but here are more photos of the entrance and the sphinxes… They have already alluded to frescoes which will be a major find!!

At OFM.. remember cremation was the way of the Greeks and Romans, which is one reason why archaeologists are so bereft research of their eating habits and pathology.. we get bones but no preserved bodies… of course the Egyptians probably didn't think they would be on display under glass for the hoi poloi to stare at for eternity so probably the Greeks were on to something. The idea of sphinxes is enticing because it could mean a Roxanna connection and the other dead boys…. but sphinxes are common Greek mythology as well…

Apparently some researcher did some research on the Philip II tomb and determined that the remains were of a younger man based on DNA, probably Philip III Arrhidaeus…. but I haven't seen much follow up on that heresy in awhile.

I'm off for a fact finding mission to Southern Bulgaria and Northern Greece (Ancient Macedonia) in the next few weeks – I'll try my best to fit a trip to Amphipolis in if I can as it would be amazing to see what's going on there (and if they have uncovered anything of significance as yet that I can see). There are some wonderful arms and armour sitting in Museums in Sofia and southern Bulgaria; much photography and sketching for possible sculpts will ensue!
