However the introduction of machine guns, heavy artillery and indeed the tank necessitated that all cavalry units had become redundant in their mounted roll by the end of 1914, for the remainder of the war they went on to serve as infantry in the trenches…"

Totally incorrect interpretation of the roles for cavalry. Sometimes dismounted in trenches, yes. But lots of mounted actions as we'll.
