I have a bunch of older 1/72 kits of various American and German troops.

My brother (16) is slowly becoming interested in ww2 gaming, I mostly do FOW… but he is more into warhammer-Esque squad gaming.

Any suggestions for rules for me to suck him into the hobby?

Let me know
Thanks
Austin

For small scale (man to man) try 2 Hour Wargames (free!) link

For larger battles (platoon+) you could give Disposable Heroes a try (squad vs squad size).

I like and support Salflats1929 suggestions, but as soon as I re-read the post and saw the term "warhammer-esque" I couldn't help but think of Bolt Action , especially when it comes to squad/unit/force building . Easy to pick up and really not much else needed but the rulebook to begin . Although not my preferred choice but is a "beer and pretzels sort of game , cheers Tom

Yep – Bolt Action is much more GW than either Nuts or Disposable Heroes. Plus it has codexes!

Tin Soldier Man11 Aug 2014 9:59 p.m. PST

Definitely Bolt Action. It has nothing to do with WWII but it is very GW.

There is of course BAPS (Beer And Pretzels System) by Buck Surdu.

There is of course BAPS (Beer And Pretzels System) …

I resisted the temptation, but somebody had to say it ! :o)

I did a WWII conversion of Necromunda, and there are WWII games based on Warhammer 40K too (Warhammer WWII and Warhammer Panzer, I think). You could try those if your brother likes GW games?

We really enjoy Battlefield Evolution World at War for gaming squad based WWII with a couple vehicles tossed in at 1/72 scale.
It has it's issues but they can either be fixed pretty easily on the fly or just ignored.

Use 40k with WW2 subbing in – "a Garand = a ….". Add some simple pin rules. Use real Orbats

+ saltflats1929
until I read Warhammeresque. It would seem Bolt Action gets a lotta love here. I'd take the advice.
THW and DH have easy to master mechanics. Personally I think they are worth a try, but if FOW/Warhammer is where yer comin' from they may not be to your taste.
I play THW mechanics and DH exclusively for WWII.

Try "FUBAR", it's free and in the files section of the Forge of War yahoo group.
