So I wanted a new game to play this weekend with my son. I ended up picking up X wing starter and a few more ships. We played two games this weekend now we are hooked.

My question is has anyone played a larger game with over 100 points a side? Maybe with squad initiative? Instead of pilot initiative. I can see larger games bogging down.

Thx

We've played a 2-on-2 game with a little over 100 points per player (over 200 per side) and it worked out fine.

We've started to realize, however that each player needs to pick and organize his force before he shows up for the game. To try and do it at the game means sitting around for an hour shuffling cards and looking for tokens.

I ran the Death Star Mission for a convention. Easily over 200 pts per side. Its not that bad when you say, "OK, all LVL 4 Imperials go!" "All Rebel 2s go!" The game bogs down when you have too many heroes with their unique skill level.

Works great with full squadrons of ships and not getting fussed at all about points: link

Thanks everyone

We played a 150 point game last Thursday night and it was done in a couple of hours. We ran it with the standard rules and it was a lot of fun.

I think the largest game I played in was around 400 points per side, there were 4 Imperial players with over 30 Tie fighters, and 3 Rebel players with about half as many X-wings/Ywings and a CR90 (this is when the game was new and there were only a few ships available, and custom invented CR90 rules)

Like Naz said we had a 150 point game with the big blockade runner (forget what it is called) with two B-Wings as escort and Naz and I took a bunch of TIE-Fighters, Advanced TIEs, along with Slave 1. It was a heck of a fight. We have talked about running a large convention game.

I don't think I've played a game with less than 100 points per side! IMHO, the game is best with lots of ships and lots of players, especially when using scenario-driven fights. Here are some of my group's games:

thanks everyone, perhaps me learning the rules slowed things down a bit.

Game works well at both low (played 4 games this weekend at 30 points, had a blast) and high (all of the games listed above) points levels. Since movement is pre-plotted there's not too many decisions to make *during* the turn, which speeds things up a lot.

Here's a 2-on-2 game we played recently:

I haven't, but a number of people have had success replaying the attack on the Death Star.

Not sure how many points the Death Star is worth, but suspect it is a lot.

I personally think the game works better with more ships. More time shooting than trying to maneuver into a firing solution. Haywire has the best way to get each ship to move. The biggest challenge is keeping people from standing around waiting to go.

I think its best played with basic squadron types for the majority, with perhaps 1 or 2 special characters.
I am not convinced all the additional upgrade cards add much to the game apart from complexity!

Incidentally, my solo rules for X-Wing are freely downloadable from: link
These have allowed us to play really quite large games easily!

I've run large games at conventions. Eight players, about 160 points a side. I use just the base ships with the only upgrades that are required by the scenario. Takes about 3 hours.

Here's a right up of my first Con game:
