What is different between versions 1 & 2? If you have played both versions which do you prefer and why?

I like V 1 MUCH more. A lot more humor and flavor IMO.

Good question. 1 and 2 have some things in common. These being the shooting , movement, morale , basing and points system.
Version 1 seems to work really well if your opponent is fair and not too bothered about who wins too much.In which case you might not want to try AK2 if AK1 works.
Between such players the game is great with no great problems.

eg.
One of the problems with AK1 was that you can only shoot at the bases you see, thus players might shoot then hide or line up their bases to shoot at one of yours whilst being out of arc from the rets of your unit.

The differences number about 7 significant ones.
