"Russia's Northern Fleet's anti-submarine forces have detected and forced out a US submarine from Russian boundary waters, a high-ranking source in Russia's Navy told RIA Novosti Saturday. "On August 7, 2014, the patrol forces of the Northern Fleet detected a foreign submarine, supposedly a US Navy Virginia-class one, in the Barents Sea. A seaborne anti-submarine group, as well as an anti-submarine airplane Il-38, was sent to the region to search and track it down," the source said. yup, when the Russians manage to find a US sub and chase it away it is news. When a Russian sub manages to go undetected in US waters that is also news… |

Barents Sea, huh… If the surface ships fire off their active sonar, it's pretty much a guaranteed chase-away if the US sub isn't allowed to shoot. |

It's possible. But I think it is much more likely that this is a story cooked up by Putin et al. to feed the wave of Russian patriotism that he's stirred up by claiming military superiority to the U.S. Think of it as Putin taking his shirt off on the world stage. |
