Picked up a few tubes of this stuff at Joann's the other day out of curiosity. They come in the Folk Art size tubes.

First thing I noticed is they smell good. I haven't used them much yet, but will share any results.

I did a search here and didn't find anything. So I was wondering if anyone else has horror stories or triumphs about soy-based paints?

Never heard of it! Interested to hear what you think.

do they dry naturally? or do they need a fixative?

Indications from a quick search suggest they are at least the equivalent of acrylic craft paint in performance, just a bit more eco-friendly.

(I would call the containers bottles, rather than tubes, unless there are some squeezy artist styles.)

Sorry, they are more bottles than tubes.

I put a couple of coats of the cocoa brown on some termite mounds from Acheson. Should have some finished pics in a day or so. The paint itself seemed a little thick so I did thin it a little with water on the brush. The coverage was pretty good, we'll see how well it takes a wash and some highlights tonight.

Haven't tried them on metal yet.

I haven't heard of these paints until today. Please let us know how well they work out. Most of my miniatures are metal, so I'm curious if the paints look good on metal miniatures.

Eco-friendly paint on lead miniatures…um…

CBPIII, are you a "brush licker"? Meaning, a painter who re-shapes brushes by sticking them in his mouth? I have been guilty in the past, but broke the habit. Anyway, curious of the digestive qualities.

I'd be more concerned about the possibility of mold or mildew feeding off the soy organics over time, even if a seal coat was applied. But, I have too much acrylic paint to use up now without buying this new stuff, so not going to worry about it…. ;-)

Is this the same paint as used for painting movie film cells?

CBPIII12 Aug 2014 7:16 p.m. PST

@ allthekingsmen- I am not now, nor have I ever been, a brush licker. But it smells good like something you wouldn't mind tasting. :)

Soylent paint?

Mmm

Soy's rather far from eco friendly, I'm afraid.
